Hey, has anybody else noticed that web 2.0 sites and other doc sharing sites have first page rankings this week????? In two of my niches all the web sites that where ranking last week are all blown back to page 3 or 5 the first page is full of web 2.0 type sites selling that same product what the hell is up?? they where not even ranking last week at all.

Is Google showing more love to these type of sites now more than ever???????

  • I heard about that elsewhere as well. I can tell you that some people on another forum have noticed that web 2.0 properties that have highly unique content pointing to multiple URLs on their money site are doing pretty well. low PR Web 2.0 that have spun content sometimes with similar anchor text are not helping but hurting those pages they're pointing to so it does seem perhaps google is putting more emphasis on web 2.0 properties themselves
  • All a result of the algorithm change a few days ago. Called 'penguin' very big news and probably not done and still being rolled out. Has had a huge effect on many people. Worst part for me is hundreds of hours of KW research is basically worthless now. many threads here on the forum.
  • I heart Google.
  • Nice to hear that. I do SEO for my clients using web2.0 unique contents. And yes they are all rank better this week. I just realized it.

  • Yes, the latest of what many people are calling a devastating Google algo update (nicknamed Penguin) which is probably not even completely rolled out yet.

It is showing VERY strange results in Google, including pages that don't even exist in the top 10 of mass competition keywords such as "make money online".

For a lot of IMers it has meant catastrophy, for other marketers is is simply a reminder of Googles cruel ways.

The lesson learned is to adapt to these changes, Google makes these updates to improve user experience.

  • Federal Trade Commission is now hiring an outside litigator to take on Google's case as reported by New York Times right after this Penguin update or the timing is just coincidental ? Read the whole story below :

Federal regulators escalated their antitrust investigation of Google on Thursday by hiring a prominent litigator, sending a strong signal that they are prepared to take the Internet giant to court.

    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • new google spam algorithm helped me rank first page for few niche websites.but some websites dropped to second and third page after this update.

i think we should focus on quality backlinks than huge number of backlinks..
  • This update pushed my site uploads, and knocked out quite a few of my competitors.

    • please share what you can of your strategy. I have two sites, one that actually could make money, the other a free WP blog I used to start learning the basics. Guess which one got slammed? Of course the one with potential
  • i have to check mine's too
  • anyone have a solution here? and please point out what is the effect taken by the Penguin?
  • My traffic has dipped slightly, which usually happens on the weekend, anyway, so I'm not overly considered yet. All the previous updates have caused my traffic to shoot up. I write unique, quality content and don't spin articles or anything like that. It will be interesting to see what happens next month.

  • This is the exact reason why I'm looking at other avenues for traffic. Fed up of Google screwing people up ever since the Panda and Penguin updates.

    • I asked about this before and have not heard great ideas. what other good sources of traffic are there? going to networking events, joining a business group? heading to local chamber of commerce events? ASKING your friends to help get the word out on their FB and twitter pages? what?
  • i found that the exact keyword domain do not have the same weight as before the update.

    example: cherry picker hire

it used to rank by but now it is rank by a business/industrial website for this niche and the domain do not have any of the keyword.
  • please keep on the discussion to make this thread hot, perhaps more warrior will see this and respond.
