Working on a penalized site, well actually page

Before the latest update on the 24th I was working on a site or actual page that had about 200 links from High PR society. Then the network got deindexed and the page falled back from the top of page 2 to bottom page 3.

Since this page was pretty important to my client we decided to rent some strong homepage links, not the ones with 50 links to all kind of sites, nope max 10 homepage links per site. A week after the links were placed the page dropped to page 8. Then I applied my "secret sauce" method and the page dropped even harder.

After some thinking we decided to rename the url of that page (inspired by Yukon ) and did nothing else then apply my method on it. Page started to rank again and within 4 days it showed up at #2. 3-4 weeks later it's still there.

Kind of proofs that Google has site wide penalties and page-only penalties.

We used the exact same content btw and didn't do any 301 redirect (as that would make it only worse).

That's funny because changing the URL was exactly what I suggested for people to do when they got the Google Webmaster Tools backlink warning message.

Anyways, good job on the ranked page.

Sorry I didnt mention you but I got inspired by you indeed, like you said: The point it to test if Google allows the old content to rank, and I tested it and it does. Thanks! (Updated OP)

I skipped a few of your points though, we didn't wait till the old one was deindexed, we simply just renamed the url and the link from the homepage that lead to that page.

  • Interesting, I have a site that has a similar issue. Certain pages still rank great, though all keywords have dropped a bit. But then certain page dropped several pages deep, that were #1. I was thinking of changing the URL and not redirecting.

When you said you used your method, did you mean the paid links you found before?

No we didn't use the paid links this time, I applied my "secret sauce" package.

Someone else asked what's in it, well I keep it to myself cause people will heavily abuse it and then sites will take measures which makes it impossible in the future.
  • Nice tip, thanks! I also have a website that's lost almost 50% of its traffic, because the inner pages have dropped in the SERPs, while the homepage remained intact. Will try this with a few of the pages!
  • What is your "secret sauce" method?
  • one can de-index whole website by using robots.txt and then change the website before resubmitting sitemap to google.

    Yes its true.
That's why i always tell people that they should not continue SEO in the affected site. Building a new one and the working with it from beginning will be easier and also effective.
  • I am very interested to see if this same method would work with the new update.
Anybody trying it at the moment ?
  • Random question:

My online store was hit bad by the 24th update. I've been researching trying to figure out what happend. It occured to me after that I have multiple cloaked re-direct domains from years ago pointing to the main site (I.e, there are 3 urls listed in google for the same site, I COMPLETELY forgot about these) I have a feeling google doesn't like this and I was wondering if anyone knew what the best thing to do is.

    Thanks
