Domain Name SEO

Hi guys, was just thinking about domain name SEO and my question is this: Is it beneficial to SEO have more that one domain name pointing to your site, heres and example:

Current Domain:

www dot howtostopproblem dot com

Proposed extra domain:

www dot howtoovercomeproblem dot come

Is this going to increase my ranking in the search engines for both of the keywords? Have you used this tactic before and is it worthwhile?

Thanks for your time and I look forwards to your responses

Fred

  • Pointing at = yes you need lots of good quality sites pointing...

Acting as = no - you'll get the duplicate content issue on one or both

    Hope that helps?
  • Are you talking about getting another domain and redirecting it to the other domain? Or, are you talking about building up another site with it's own content and linking back to your other site?

If you are simply wanting to buy a domain and redirect it to your other site, then I doubt you'll get any seo benefit from this. If you are building a site with it's own content and backlinking to other site then it could help possibly. However, if it's new, it probably won't help you that much for a while.
  • Multiple domain names using forwards don't help SEO. Make your alternate names into microsites to feed links and traffic to the main site--that would help a lot more.

    • Ok, cool, so the answer is basically no? Just make smaller sites and link them to the main site rather than buying new domains and pointing them at my current domain, right?
