I'm new to internet marketing. I'm building a baseball (hitting) website and want to know if a static website or a blogsite is better. Is it your posts or your pages your trying to rank?

It will be difficult for you to rank with a small static site. you need a site which you will be updating with new contents, only then you will have good chances to rank fro your keywords.

If you start with a blog, then your work might increase as to rank to a blog you need to write original and informative posts weekly or monthly. If you are new to internet marketing then you should start with a website and after this you can start a blog as well. Of course a blog helps in connecting to your readers, but It takes lots of time until then you have to write things that appeal to the people to visit your blog and give their views. So it's better to start off with a website.

Google is looking more at your pages than your site.

And Google will look at your content quality on a page, the quantity, the freshness.

There is more into it than that as Google is looking at other things too but these days you would start with a blog.

Let me know if I can help you Warrior to Warrior.

        Good luck
        Peter

        • It is easier to promote a blog in search engines. The more quality content you add, the better you will rank. If you set up a blog, you will be able to write fresh content and advertise products and services at the same time.

    First of all

Typically people will try to rank post rather than pages.

Pages are usually for stuff like , Contact me, About me, Disclaimer and all that

Posts is for contents youd like to add to your site or blog.

Typically you can have thousands of posts but a handful of pages.

The difference between the two is important because some wordpress themes and widgets (sidebars and all that) navigation menu saparates pages.

But anyways seeing the most recent google update has made me believe that a blog is definitely better ( because of the constant updates of contents!)

Thank you for the response. Very informative. Your response was definitely what I was getting at. So I would then assign my posts to my "categories"??

I actually did a small case study on this.. Site A has all content on posts. Site B has main content on pages & supporting content on posts.

At the end of the day, both sites are doing equally well.
