1. Which analytic tool that you guys are using to analysis traffic to your website? Is it Google analytic or statcounter.com or some other?

2. In this forum (Under Main Internet Marketing Discussion Forum category), I had read that after recent updates many guys had quit from Google analytic as their ranks dropped down and those guys argue that they got increment in ranks after removing Google analytic...... For me it looks like a "myth"... How about you guys?

People on this forum are weird. One person with al ot of posts says Google Analytics gets you punished and people start removing GA from their sites like blind sheep.

Google Analytics gives you the best data available. If you are serious about your business, use Google Analytics or Core Metrics.

    Dont listen to myths!

Personally I would NEVER put analytics on a site that I had adsense on. Giving Google too much information is never a good idea.

I use piwik.org It has all that analytics can do do with a very easy to understand interface

How you think does Google can't get information about your site if you'll not add this to analytics? Common man Google knows everything that are on the internet.

Solid proof is in-front of you that most of the marketer sites hit by the penguin even they are not listed their sites in Google analytics.

When you're building sites, you rely heavily on google to help build your business, why hand all your info to them on a plate?

I refuse to have either analytics or googles webmaster tools on my adsense sites or that of my clients. I have never had a site slapped or de-indexed. Having an outside entity with this much control is not something I am happy to do.

Piwik is an open source version of analytics, it does all that google does, so why take unnecessary risks? Unlike google, my info is hosted on my own servers with me having the only access to it..

There is nothing that analytics does for me that Piwik doesn't..

          Good luck

My partner in crime likes Mint, I think it is www.haveamint.org. I hear it's good to stay away from the free Google Analytics, which is too bad. Killer app, but they use the data against you.

Well guys, even, I may or maynot belive this..... I tested myself,

I had my SEO site on # 95 after Penguin updates, Well, earlier, it was on # 300 or etc...I had only few links, used varied anchor text. I had links to my inner pages as well, I had GA installed.

After I read this news about GA, I removed it on 30th April 2012 from my site.

I checked rank on 2nd May 2012 - I am on # 72 now. Jump from #95 to # 72 - During this period, I did not do any Off-Site SEO or changes to On-Site SEO....

    Have anyone experienced such changes?

I don't know others but I use google analytics , statcounter is also good. Because it shows you full information about your traffic. You can choose both. No problem.

Yes - its difficult to judge this one as there are so many conflicting opinions. I use GA as its easy to install and use but also have sites with Piwik - it takes a bit more time to install as you host it yourself but is great once you get used to it - and it's free.

      Let's clear this one up..

GA is the best, it's features, accountability etc..

BUT!! By using it, you run the risk of providing them with the key to your front door. Yes, they can break it down anyway, but why leave the key out for them?

+1 vote for something other than GA. (Piwik Yes! GetClicky Yes!)

One reason why - They're in my town this week with their little buddies, Intuit, to compete directly with me. Not as a search engine. Oh No. Now they're into the "websites for local business" business.

AND they have all of my data, my local business customers' data, PLUS anyone else doing local web business over the past 15 years.

THAT is why they give these services away for free. Because WE (You and ME) gather up all of their market research for them. Then we make our way to the castle and kneel down on their "blue, red, yellow, blue, green and red" striped carpet. We then hand them our data on a silver platter. They drop us a piece of crust and a Penquin stress toy then laugh at us mockingly as we leave the castle. "Suckers", they whisper under their breath as the over-sized door slams behind us.

Don't think it'll happen to you? You know what business model they're copying now? Amazon. So...get all of your physical product conversion data all nice and tidy. The King shall call you to the striped carpet soon. You may even get a "slap" on the bottom for a job well done. Some people even put their profit data in their GA accounts! Well done....wellllll done.

Should you really worry? C'mon. That's a myth! Really? Most of what they succeed at is copied or bought. Most of what they fail at, they made up themselves.

Google Adwords == Overture (Now Yahoo / Bing etc)
    Google Analytics == Urchin (Purchased)
Google Voice == Grand Central (Purchased)
Google Wave, Plus or whatever they cover it with == Facebook, Twitter, Friendfeed.
    Google Payments -- PayPal
Google Shopping -- Soon to be an Amazon clone
Google Fulfillment? -- Fulfillment by Amazon
and so on and so on.

So do you REALLY want to hand all your data to copy cats? Not unless you don't really value your business info I guess. Or your clients' data.

And NO they don't know ~~~everything~~~ that happens on the web. They like to make you think they do...but. If you don't use GA, they don't know if you get a click from referrals, return visitors, social, display ads or anywhere OTHER than ppc, organic, their browser gadgets or a partner. AND they CERTAINLY would/should have NO idea what your conversion data is. Don't be one of those people that gives them your PROFIT data! Are you flipping serious right now?!

Oh! One more thing. They don't even GIVE you all of your keyword data anymore. Remember? "Keyword Not Provided"....TO YOU that is! But they still have it!

Look in the mirror and make sure you don't have rainbow swirly things rotating on your pupils. Then go host your business data yourself! Secretly! The way it should be!
