Is it me or since this penguin update I seem to be getting a lot of emails and promo's from google about their adwords???

I had a £50 adwords voucher offer 2 days after I got stung which I felt was taking the piss a bit. Talk about rub your face in it.....

and since i've had numerous "newsletters" from them about tips and the great little changes they made.

I mean come on, was this their method of targeted marketing that they thought would go under the raydar. This is just manipulative and underhanded. (google internal moto) build your empire with us for FREE! Then swipe it away and replace with a pay'd alternative. Quids in!! :p

Business is business. And google is one of the biggest after all.

The only hope is someone making a better search engine than them. When there is monopoly then there is a problem. Always.

Take the time to analyze your site(s) for things affected by Penguin.

Check to see if your links contain "money keywords" in their anchor text. If over 60% of them do, it could be a problem. If over 60% do, add more links from domains and websites within your own niche that don't.

Oh I am well aware why I got hit. I needed to get links against google guidlines because nobody was going to link to the kind of site I had published. It was a business that relied on local services. I won't say what but who the hell would link to a metal fabrication company on the merit of its content. That was an example but I think you have to play a little dirty to get yourself in the top set under those circumstances. The onpage seo is spot on so without doubt it was links

You could but a nice video on your site with cute kittens playing. People would link then. On a serious note you are spot on. Most site people couldn't give a rats ass since these type of sites are not that compelling. Especially real world businesses.
