OK, I give up on SEScout -- recommendations?

When SEScout worked, it was cool. Nice listing of the search rankings, nice history graphs, etc. But I give up - too many outages on my rankings.

So... where should I go for the same kind of search ranking service?
SerpFox?

id complain about the outages but since they are giving it to me for free i guess i cant

whats sad is that i have one acct i am trying to recver from penguin and the outages really hurt the ability to judges my link sculpting changes

I would recommend serpbook & micrositemasters.

Tried sescout as a new user 1 month ago and the service was horrible.

The problem with all these tools is that they rely on scraping Google. They've built up a business that helps you violate Google's Terms of Service. Google actively works on ways to make these tools less effective through banning IP addresses, etc.

You can actually pull the search rank out of the search engine referrer, so you're not scraping Google. That's preferable, but there are downsides to that method as well.

Google never wants it to be too easy for people to figure out how their actions are affecting the search results. This would make it too easy to run test experiments. :>)

On the other hand, Google themselves has a "preview" in the AdWords tools section that gives you search results without some of the issues that just grabbing results has.

@UMS - Take a look at a referral from Google in your search logs on your server. In about 25% of the time, the rank is encoded into the URL. Extract that out and you can keep track of your rankings.

Anyway, that's how we do it with Keyword Strategy.

I'm a huge fan of SERPFox, quality service and little to no downtime (that I've ever noticed).

The one complaint, and hell it shouldn't even be a complaint, is that the update their rankings TOO often. Something like 4 or 5 times a day!

If you were a big fan of SE Scout's interface - as I was before I gave up on them months ago - then you will like Positionly. They have good customer service (WHAT!? haha) and the prices are really reasonable.

Authority Labs is good too, but their interface is a bit dated for me.
