Penguin Killed Me Partially - Mainly My Long Tails

Penguin hit me .. but on my best site it hit me far less than on my other sites.

On my best site it brought many of my main terms to the bottom of the first page and some onto the second.

But for the long tail terms I wasn't targeting, I dropped down many many pages.

Is this what other people are seeing?

Yes. I have four very reputable insurance sites. All original content. No spun stuff. I wrote all of the articles.

For most key terms, I'm still fine. But long-tail words, I went from Page 1 (Often top spot) to Pages 2 and 3.

The big winner in the insurance (health) business was EHealth. Even though many of their state pages are similar, Google loves them.

Does anyone else see this long tail problem?

G also now ranks inner pages instead of main domain for some of these long tail terms..
(but very deep in the serps)

Were you excessively linking to the root domain for these long tail terms as well as the main ones?

No. Not at all. Just the main ones for the most part.

My site just had a lot of authority where it ranked for many terms.

    Thoughts?
