Authority blog updates & no backlinks

Hello warriors! I have a "quick" question for you guys:

So im in the process of mapping out my SEO plan for this summer for a 9 y/o authority blog in the health niche. The site already gets a steady 100 visitors a day but im ready to take it to the next level.

I have the infrastructure in place to be able to crank out 4+ unique and high quality articles every single day with no sweat. My only issue is that I don't wan't to be bothered with backlinking. For me, it's just too risky, especially if im going to put in the hard work to get quality content. I'd rather not screw with that and "ruin" my entire site.

So the question is, can I see a decent amount of traffic on this authority site with just frequent content updates alone? (all targeting VERY low comp keywords)

Or is backlinking a truly unavoidable necessity?

If you're targeting VERY low competition you may rank pretty well based on your authority.

Anything with decent competition is going to require backlinks, regardless of what Google wants you to think. (This is my opinion.)

4 Articles a day = 120 a month, so I would do some massive keyword research and target any and all keywords you can find (even if you have to extrapolate upon some bigger ones) and write articles for each and every one.

Another warrior recently started bring up this strategy and its highly intriguing. I think that if you continue over a period of a year or so, you'll even start ranking for some of those bigger keywords without building links.

A big thing people tend to forget is that SEO is all about speeding the process of ranking up....that is all we are doing. If your website sucks and you never add content, it will never get anyway. 120 posts a month for 12+ months and you will definitely be on your way, provided you target your posts with the keywords from your list.
