Thought I'd give you a little bump.

Great article which needs to be read. There's WAY too many PR scams in the marketplace. Seems that about half of the domains I find via the TDAM addon in Scrapebox have fake PR.

While the article is useful advice, it says:

As simple as it is to fake PageRank, it is equally as simple to check fake PageRank.
That may well be true for a lot of faked PR, but there has been a big increase in sites using a new fake PR technique that passes the standard checks.

However, the biggest giveaway on these sites is that they are newly registered, have little to no backlinks, and in some cases get too greedy and give themselves a PR10!

A little bit of commonsense goes a long way in detecting fake PR.

Hi there that is very helpful but surely that is quite obvious - if you're going to spend money on a product like a High PR domain then surely you would check that out first wouldn't you? Good articles though

Don't only check for fake PR.

It is also a very good idea to check the actual backlinks that create the PR. Look at them and evaluate if these links are likely to stay alive after you buy a domain. Maybe these are bought links that get removed after the transaction or they are spammy links that might get deleted. Only buy domains with a solid backlink profile.

In some case, you check the Info:domain.com, it also come to itself domain, it shows valid .
So, if you check PR only in this way, you lose !.

    Here is the deep skill:
    - Check info:domain.com in Google >> Okay, it's valid.
    - Check alexa + majesticseo.com for its backlinks, see which backlinks come to that website ( you must login to view)
    - Go to archive.org > check the domain histories, see the recent snapshot of that domain, click on it >> if it comes to itself >> the PR is valid. If it comes to another website ( redirect), the PR is fake. This step is very important !

Both of these posts are spot on.

      1. Always determine which backlinks give the PR and try to guess if those backlinks are there to stay.
      2. Beware of redirected backlinks (not just domains).
      3. I use both majestic and ahrefs to check link profiles. Do Google advances queries as well - lots of info there.
      4. The archive.org tip is very important these days.
      5. Get seomoz PA/DA scores. They are slow to update, so if the site is new - there likely isn't going to be any data. Move on to the next site.

Honestly, I use registercompass to weed out like 95% of domains before I even start doing research. That's only if you're buying domains obviously.

I do all of the above and not had a single flop in over 50 buys now. I'ts almost hard to believe. A few sites lost some PR (like from 3 to 2, etc), but that's normal.

It's not easy to check for real PR. Each and
every PR checker gives "valid" stamps for fake
      PR 99.999% of the time.

A sure tip off is very little or no content past the
first page. And, it's not in the google cache.

And of course anything with PR10 or even PR9.
That is a short, well-known list. PR10, for example,
is a list of 20 (or less give or take) websites. You
would not see ANY of those on flippa.
