The Failure of Google's latest update

I know that many of us have been seeing extremely random results from Google searches since the last updates, and since Google claims these updates were made to "enhance our user's ability to find what they are looking for" yet the results are more random than ever, I think it's pretty safe to assume we can expect a rollback of a lot of the recent changes fairly soon, as we have with many updates in the past.

Check this gem out as an example:

A search for "how to get your ex girlfriend back", which is a major search term reveals the following results on page 1:

1) relevant site
2) relevant videos
3) Countryuniverse.net (WTF?)
4) relevant site
5) arnaudsrestaurant.com (WTF?)
6) dan-radcliffe.net (WTF?)
7) afriendlydivorce.com (only slightly relevant)
8) palmbeachbiketours.com (WTF?)
9) relevant site
10) thisisaphotoblog.com (WTF?)

    • Penguin was deployed on April 24. Today will be May 8. All in, about 2 weeks. It's clear that the results are ****ed up till today.

      Google has been silent all along. I am not sure why people still hope Google will admit they made a huge mistake, let alone roll back. I don't.

      It's hard, probably impossible, for them to admit they screwed up...that is, IF they really think they screwed up.

      I'm kicking the habit of using them as a search engine. It's Bing for me. I only use them now just to see how ****ed up they are.

    • With anchors being devalued, the algo has a hard time determining what the websites are about so it ends up spitting out random and irrelevant results.

      It is all over the serps.
    • Has there been a statement from Google after this change? I mean there's over 800 comments from vexed Webmasters on their official blog after this major change which has affected many people's lives. You'd think Google would be making a statement at least to say "We've had some issues with the algo and are sorting them out" or "It turned out the Penguin wasn't the right animal for the job, we're rolling back".
  • That's just ridiculous! I would have thought that after the dust settles results would go back to semi normal... I guess not. Luckily none of my sites have been hit (knock on wood) but I seriously hope google will at least roll back some of the changes... doesn't make sense!
