One Way Linking to Relevant Community Content

I've got a question that relates to content that I see that could be helpful to a website I am trying to bring up in the rankings. What I want to know is that if I see content in the community (on other websites in the same area), would this be a good step to post an except in the blog of the site I am trying to bring up in ranking? I am aware that I will not get a reciprocal link, but this this could somehow be helpful.

I'd like to hear some ideas on this. Am I totally absurd to think this could help my ranking?

Thanks.

Yes, this is now trending as "curation".

You can't take content from any blog and assume you can reprint it with simply a credit.

But most blogs have RSS feeds that are designed for syndication, so you could grab the content from their feed and add as you describe.

You can create lists of feeds from your niche in Google Reader for a constant source of content for uses like this.

There are tools and WP curation plugins that also facilitate this. They allow you to grab the content you want to add, then automatically include the relevant references and links.

This also helps Google see your site as "real" and "relevant". Traditional IM was to avoid traffic leaks from your site, but with the new Google updates it is better to have a more natural linking structure of outbound and inbound links.

Thanks for the WP plugins. I'll check out curation.

Also, often times I use AMR to "syndicate" my content. I sometimes see trackbacks and am unsure whether to approve them or not. Other times I post content (on my blog) about topics that are related to my niche or my website, and wonder how good of an idea it is to post links to content/posts that I am talking about on my website. The issue is that I am a PR1, but would think that if I am talking about relevant content, and thus linking to them, will it help me, or just help their link juice?

    Thanks.
