Well everyone will tell you to write quality content which is of course a must but if you really want to get traffic on the long term you should start building relations with the top bloggers in your niche. You can target the top 4-5 blogs on your niche and first start daily commenting on their blogs, you should not commenting just to get backlinks but to get noticed by the bloggers and their readers so you should always add value to the discussion and make others want to learn more from you, then you could ask bloggers to guest post on their blogs, you should write the best possible content that you can. If you are consistent and do this daily (you can guest post 2-3 times per week) you will start getting a lot of traffic after 2-3 months and you could establish your blog as an authority on your niche in the long term...

I personally dismissed this when I started, but this really is much more important that what one would think at first. SEO, PPC, having top-notch quality products/content is all important of course, but getting friends among the "top" of your niche might be the single most important thing to do. (However, much depends on the specific niche of course)

First of all you should have two well defined strategy for generating traffic to your blog - one is long term (SEO, Online marketing) and another one is short term (forum post, blog comment etc).

You need to spend time working on both strategy continuously. After you work for a considerable amount of time you will start to see traffic to your blog. Then you can search for other alternative traffic sources also.
