  • The goal is to make users to spend more time inside your site, so try to force them to browse the web before find the content that they want.

You can try to modify your site structure in order to show a categories menu, exceprts of your articles instead show the content in the main page, or include videos which make users to spend some time.

I'm not totally agree with "less bounce rate = more quality" because a good structured page, or a very specific site could give you quality content and exactly what you are looking for in a few seconds. In the other hand, you could spend a lot of time in a site because it is unsorted or you cant find what you want.

But, right now G take bounce rate like a quality signal, so, let's play the game. Force users to spend their time.

Add more content as in, pictures and videos. adding videos is your best option, if they stay and watch your videos your bounce rate will decrease.
  • Make sure you have targeted traffic and your not just advertising for visitors everywhere. If someone comes across your website and its not the one they want because it is not the type of website they hoped for then they will bounce right back off.

    The trick: Targeted Visitors
  • gzip your site so it loads faster and work on targeting the correct keywords. If your page loads fast and is relevant to the keyword/link that brought the visitor there should be no reason for them to back out of your page without spending some time browsing

    • Use higher quality and relevant content. Make a video or use a related video and place it on your post or page after 2nd or 3rd paragraph. This will keep people on your site longer. Make sure you can see the video and its above the fold.

  • Try including videos in your pages, videos are the best ways to reduce bounce rate.
  • Make sure you have relevant content, which is the key! You can reduce your bounce rate by having a poll related to the topic, catchy image/title. Also, try Peter Garety's Bounce Rate Eliminator, a good stuff really!

    • It depends on the niche. I know for one of my sites, organic traffic has a much higher bounce rate because the organic results takes them directly to the page with the answer they want.

My adwords traffic comes to a general search page, so to find what they are looking for they have to use the search tool or click on some predefined links to get an answer. The difference between organic and adwords traffic bounce rates are almost 30%.

Is it bad to have a high bounce rate? While optimally, whether they find the answer or not, it is great to have them visit other pages of your site, but the most important thing is they find the answer which if they do on the first page the visit, the bounce rate will be high.
  • Add images, videos, testimonials

make you sure set target="_blank" for all links

have related articles/posts listed at the end of each post

have an appealing clean look...not polluted with ads and popups

have good interesting content that is not boring

attract targeted visitors...make them want more
  • By Adding Video and Picture galleries help you to reduce bounce rate. I have used simple survey questionnaires in top positions. Most of visitors will try to read and vote it. This trick helped me to reduce bounce rate.
  • Just one video can seriously decrease your bounce rate... also the target="_blank" is very effective, but don't overdo it (can get irritating when every link opens a new window...)
  • I am really wondered with this question. Most of the webmasters want to increase their site bounce rate and you are asking to decrease!!!

    • Why would most webmasters want to increase their bounce rate? I may be new to IM but I would have thought that you would want to encourage visitors to explore your website, not click away or hit the back button.
  • Hello!

You should make the users spend more time in your site so, a little complication in the site will challenge them to browse more but too complicated cause they might run out of patience and leave your site. But it's the best way, put a little complication to challenge them to browse more.

    Best of Luck!
  • Thanks to all for your suggestions. My sites bounce rate is high now i get ideas to reduce it.
  • Try to get the reader to take some action at the end of each blog post.

For example - invite them to leave a comment, give them a link to another related post or give them the link to download a freebie on your site.

If you don't suggest anything most readers will be likely to hit the back button. You have to tell them what you want them to do.

    Cheers,
    Suzanne

  • I usually just embed a related video in the posts, it really helps with the bounce rate.
