This has probably been the most sensible article I've read so far regarding Google's latest algorithm update.

I thought Id share it here

Just be sure you set aside about 30-40 minutes to read it. I think the U.S. Tax Code is shorter than that post, but it was a good read.

I had read this but thanks for the share. Chris Remple is a smart marketer. He also at least seems to be about as no BS as anyone. I am a long time reader of his blog.

Utter non-sense that AskTheBuilder.com and DaniWeb were affected by Penguin.
ATB got hit hard with that update, and it was out of the blue. Tim Carter, the guy behind AskTheBuilder, is a friend of mine. I'm pretty sure he wasn't going around posting crap links or playing the blog farm game. Not only is he too smart for that, there was never any need for it. ATB is a classic example of the true authority site.

The penguin caught some innocent bystanders in the crossfire. It will be interesting to see how G responds to that.

    This is their new plan?

This means that instead of walking into a niche with 1 domain and building a nice 100 page site, it means that you walk into that market with 10 domains, with 10 pages per site – and where you build 10 different backlink profiles for each site. (Even if only slightly different).
Isn't that the same plan in every other WSO that's been posted in the last 3 years?

Have they never heard of thin MFA affiliate sites?

I do agree that SEO is a numbers game, but the numbers are multiple pages on the same subject & same domain, not multiple 10 page domains, that's a death sentence waiting to happen.

If you can rank a single semi competitive keyword, you can piggyback off that ranked pages authority with multiple internal pages targeting similar themed keywords (snowball effect).

Some people just do things the hard way.

That is why Authority sites rank isn't it (not a question).

Utter non-sense that AskTheBuilder.com and DaniWeb were affected by Penguin. Both of those sites have tremendously serious on-page issues that have nothing to do with Penguin. And don't take my word for it, go find both threads on the Google forums and you'll see what it boils down to.

All in all, I can see why that site is called the lazy marketer. I would ignore everything except the "safe list".

The path Google is going is so clear, yet many remain blind.

Well, he does admit right off to being lazy. What do you expect?

I just stumbled upon this thread and it encouraged me to join these forums just to set the record straight. DaniWeb wasn't affected by Penguin.
