for all you seo whiz's...

my homepage is a squeeze page.

my blog is located @ .com/blog

I've come to the realization that its time to switch things up.... (thanks google!) so... I want to make my blogs homepage as my site's homepage.

but i can't move the blog... too many posts and rankings for the posts.

how do you do this without screwing up your domain/homepage's seo?

  • Can't you just set the homepage URL to the blog's homepage? This is very easy to do if its wordpress. Even if its not its still really easy to do. I might be missing something though.
  • try 301 meta redirection in .htaccess or meta tages.
  • There are scripts to put on a seperate page that is set as the homepage but pull the info from the blog, but if it was more permanent then I would just look for some sort of migration plugin and move the whole directory to / and then 301 all the urls or you could just redirect your homepage like dp40oz mentioned, probably abit easier...
  • I wrote a step-by-step process for moving your WordPress site from /blog to the root. This includes the redirect code you need to use. You can find it here:

    • Simple. You do a 301 redirect from the index page of the
      domain to the blog.
      domain.com to domain.com/blog

It's done quite frequently by big sites, and I've
      done it.

Everything is maintained, and from when I did similar,
      the index page stays indexed.

There is no reason to do it any other way.

There is one other way that is very effective, but
takes some knowledge of html, etc. Just make the
index page a content page, with links to main blog
posts, as well as the main blog page.

Don't ever think about moving or deleting anything.
      You may never recover.

  • Paul,

    thanks... 301 redirect eh?

so that maintains any seo "juice"? (whatever's left after googles latest killing spree)

i dont wanna move my blog, i just want my homepage to be my blogs homepage.
