Google prefer the relevancy after the panda update, means if you need to blogs or forum posting then your post must be the relevant to the topic.

Guest posting is the best way to overcome any google update and at the same time not relying on search engines for traffic. Of course social bookmarking, forum posting and even article marketing still work but not if you are doing it just to get backlinks, instead if you focus on sharing quality content and actually posting on forums to boost your reputation and get traffic then you will get traffic from these sources without caring about google...

Social bookmarking your page 1 time yourself at all major social bookmarking sites is promotion and not link building so thats natural and fine. Posting links on forums within your niche and providing links on forums within relevant content is totally natural. Posting articles to websites that are relevant and interested in what you are writing about is as natural as it gets. So yes those are all good tactics and white hat within reason.

I think one should focus on building the major social profiles. I see some potential in e.g. a Google plus profile, e.g. by using "author" to associate quality articles with your G+ account. (Something I need to get done myself as well!)

Links from relevant sites is always great, but I'm still finding success with things like social bookmarks. The biggest change I've seen is that diversifying anchor text is much more important now, so If you do a social bookmark campaign make sure to use about many anchor text not just one.

I was going to start working on this as well. The latest SEOmoz whiteboard was pretty much all about changing up anchor text: The Penguin Update - Whiteboard Friday | SEOmoz

A I understand, Panda is mainly a site quality analysis tool, it doesn't examine backlinks, it has changed what are effective link sources, you can find reports showing the search raking loss at article directories, lowering their ranking benefit.

The newer Penguin filter does look for search manipulation tricks, perhaps more of the on site type.

There were recent de-indexing of paid blog networks, buying that sort of backlinks might be a less wise investment now.

If one experiences a sudden drop in search ranking,. it's a good practice to look for a drop in search referral traffic in your server logs that coincides with the date of one of the Google updates you can find in this calendar of algorithm changes.

Continue with article marketing, guest blogging. Start posting in social network site too. You post in social network site might even be higher then your own website.
