I agree, forum profile links are a little more then useless. I'm not really a fan of blog commenting either, unless it is well-done and not spammy. I am a big fan of blog posts on high PR blogs, article marketing, press releases, and to a lesser extent directory submissions. Link wheels are also great.

The answer to this is blog commenting on authority blogs on your niche and guest blogging, there is no better option than this if you want to rank better on search engines and at the same time not relying on them for traffic...

Unless you are ensuring the quality of those links i'd avoid doing any of that. All of those things are fine if they look natural and seem quality. If they are mass produced you are just leaving yourself open to be penalized either now or in the future.

All methods are good which you are doing.
The only thing you can avoid is profile links.
But they are also used to built the backlinks.
Th only thing is dont do spamming any where for only backlinks.

As far as I can tell, not even quality article marketing/submission are 100% safe anymore with regards to Penguin. But if you do, only submit to the highest quality places + make sure to vary your backlink anchor text + post quality articles + don't overdo it

I think the most important thing you can do is mix it up. By that I mean vary the anchor text keywords, use lots of different link building methods rather than focusing on just one or two, use a mix of follow and no follow links and try to get links from related sites in your own niche.

The most important point of this whole comment is to avoid "Warrior SEO Services" and services on any other IM website, such as Traffic Planet, Wicked Fire, etc Those guys are still offering blog comments on "foreign" websites and links to ALN, etc. It's like they haven't even heard of Penguin. Penguin is too new for anybody on this forum to even being close to knowing what will and won't work for quality backlinking. It's opinion and opinion only. Until people have done enough "case studies" to see what really work and what doesn't take any advice with a grain of salt.
ALso watch out for these so called gurus selling you products on how to beat Penguin and Panda. They also don't have a clue and just trying to sell their "low quality" IM products to unsuspecting newbies.
However, probably the most safest backlinking you can do right now is social bookmarks and guest blog posts but quality guest blog posts are really hard to get.
I found this guy who was offering guest blog post services and the posts were on some of the crappiest sites you had ever seen. Didn't even relate to my niche. So be wary of SEO services offering even this.

It's in my opinion that IM is going to get tougher and tougher and Google has made it that way. My gut tells me Google SEO for Internet Marketing is going to be a dying breed in the next 5 years as G's algorithm will be so sophisticated it will be able to detect any content or backlinking that is totally unnatural.

All those methods you talked about good and still work. I think the two main things to think about are making sure you are diversifying, so lots of links from lots of different sources, and use lots of anchor text variation along with raw url links.

Here is what you can do...
you should Stick to white hat, legitimate SEO work.
Remove all keyword stuffing and other over-optimized on-page elements.
Stop link spamming (link trading).
Stop linking the same anchor text to multiple sources.
Include unique, informative content in your website.
Make the most of social media interactions.

SEO isn't dead but it just got a lot more difficult. 99% of Warrior SEO services are dead though as most of these services just blast low quality links to an anchor text of your choice and that's exactly what penguin is out to end.

What about services that don't blast low quality links? Not all warrior offers are that there are very many differen't kinds. I agree that you should be picky when buying a warrior SEO service but to say that all warrior offers are dead..I just can't see that being the case.

Also yeah what is wrong with using google analytics?

When looking at SEO services I try to make sure:

The service is not creating many low quality links to my site - i'd rather have one good link
Spun content isn't being used
The content is unique
The link is on relevant content
The OBL count is below 30
I can include varied anchor texts
The links leave no footprint
No links are on Public Blog Networks
Scraped content isn't being used
Common templates are not being used

I think that probably eliminates most Warrior SEO services

One of the biggest issues with one off Warrior SEO services is that nobody is establishing the links in relation to the existing link profile. Careful planning, recording, and monitoring is needed to ensure that the link profile appears natural. To say that this or that link building service is 100% panda / penguin safe just can't be true because it depends on the ratio of anchor text recurrence, for any specific keyword, to overall link count, along with many other new panda / penguin factors.

Also yeah what is wrong with using google analytics? I and many others lost many sites and the reason appeared to be because the sites shared the same Analytics account. To be honest this is more to do with the recent Unnatural Links Detected Penalties which arrived just before Penguin. If google finds one suspect site which can be linked to other sites via google Analytics then all of the sites are at risk. Check out Piwik as a good open source alternative to Google Anlaytics. Unless your site's links are 100% natural then it's best to let Google know as little as possible. If you don't build links then Google Analytics is a great tool to use.

Profile links are almost the very definition of spam abuse and that's just what penguin was designed to combat.

Why do people think that pointing spam links to tier 2 / 3 / 4 is safe? They all point back to your site in the end. Why people want to do this confuses me. Thinking these links are bad so lets point then to a buffer site that in turn points to my main site makes no sense. If you know they're junk then don't use them at all.

I can understand pointing high risk links, like public/private blog network links, to a buffer site but not junk spam links.

There is a very bad habit on this forum of just wanting large numbers of links, like that's the cause of ranking :confused:. Chasing the loophole is also another bad habit; if you've hung around long enough you will know that every loophole is closed down or punished.

Make your link profile appear natural and build for the future.

  Create a site with great useful content.
  
  Then contact other complimentary sites that are not directly competing with you and explain to the webmaster how useful and helpful your content may be to their visitors.

you better avoid Not having an opt-in box collecting subscribers

you never know when Panda, Penguin or some other animal

1) If more than about 60% of your links have exact anchor texting, you will get into trouble.
2) If you build links on sites that are not relevant to yours, the link value will be zero.
3) Stop setting up tons of exact keyword matching domains to rank on one particular keyword. It will be a wast of time.

SEO techniques/methods are still working but not all of them are as good and effective as they were before. You may want to avoid specifically, building links which seem unnatural and making use of keywords over and over again.

I wouldnt stop using forum profile links just because they are not working.... using them gives you link diversity.

I remember everybody was saying about only building links from "do follow" blogs.... I feel that just raises flags in my eyes....

Mix up your anchor text also what its working well is using your domain as the anchor text :-)

You do regular organic link building, but try to make attention that never try to do spamming on a same keyword. Try to build conversations on high PR and authority blogs with fresh and readable content. You can also take part in relevant topic discussion in reputation forum threads.

Keyword stuffing, over optimizing, hidden texts/ links etc are the must avoid practices. Google Penguin has 52 changes then Panda. Just Google it and you will find lots of articles on those changes if you want to know them in deep.

some great wisdom in this thread.. but with many websites containing a link profile with 100s or 1000s of links, how are we to be able to rank a site with only a 'handful' of quality links as seems to be suggested here? am i off-base?
