I was wondering, what are the top methods and strategies you have used to build links to your website?
and how long did they take to provide some results?
Any of them free?

    guest posting - very powerful

    create killer content = link bait (others will want to link to it)

    use tynt.com on your sites - helps your link velocity to remain good and also you will pick up tonnes of free links (this is a killer tool and its free)

    blog commenting

    forums

    social bookmarking

    try to build some solid contextual links on relevant sites within your niche - these are very powerful

    Link building method are the only way to increase SERPs and PR so my favorite are:
    1) Guest Blogging on Related Blogs with 2 Link backs from each post,
    2) Social Bookmarking,
    3) Do Follow Blogs Commenting,
    4) Article Writing on TOP DOG Article Directories Like as Ezine etc.
    5) Web 2.0 Posting,
    6) Contacting For Link exchange with Related Website (For Some Time To get Indexed + PR
  • If you want free link building method then use warrior forum cause threads and posts of warrior forum indexes very fast.

    1) Article Marketing (on wordpress blogs and web2.0 sites only) regularly
    2) Video Marketing regularly
    3) Forum Posting sometimes

  • Guest posting is a very preferable method. Also seek out high quality PR sites and avoid spamming low quality. Personally, I avoid blog commenting, forum profiles, and spun article marketing blasts (or anything spun) if you find a website that allows spun content, avoid it!

    Also look at directories as well

    Youtube is also a great place to pick up traffic and links but also remember to build links to your links :-)

      To leverage your time you could consider using your content more than once. For example, if you write an article why not record yourself reading the article. You can then add that to a powerpoint presentation and turn it into a video. Also you could submit the powerpoint presentation to a doc sharing site.

    • Whatever you do stick to white hat methods only. Using BH tactics you may rank for a while but be sure that you'll lose it soon. Focus on following things while building backlinks:

      1. Diversification of link sources

      2. Anchor text variation

      3. Quality of the link sources ( PR, Age, Alexa rank etc)
