Quality of articles

How quality do articles really need to be in order to gain trust from website visitors? Obviously I don't want a 3rd grader writing articles for my site, but at what point do you look at an article and say "this is acceptable for my website" and just move on?

I know we're supposed to offer content for users, not search engines, but if you have an OK article is it possible to still gain trust?

  • What kind of website is it? Are you just answering a searchers questions, then the quality doesn't matter if they can find the answer.

If you are trying to sell something then you better have some quality ****.

Take a look at your on-page, your return visitors, your bounce rate, your pages viewed, should help you measure quality. But also use your head, read the content and if you find the information good, your readers probably will to.

    • It depends on what you want from your site, I suppose.

When you're surfing the web, do you bookmark (or share, pin or tweet) "okay" content? In my experience, very few people do.

  • A good article is one that gives value to the readers, it doesn't need to be an academic paper but when someone reads it he/she should feel that he/she has learnt something new, that's all what is needed

  • The simple sort of "test" that I use to determine the quality of my pages is this:

Would I share this on FB?

The closer to yes the better.
