According to me if you start seo then here i define some step about it. First of all you start on page optimization and create your website seo friendly. If your on page is totally complete than start off page optimization properly.To improve your web presence and get more traffic and also get incoming links. If you increase knowledge of SEO than read seobook, The art of seo, Seo fitness workbook. Might be these book are useful to you.

Being a beginner you should start with basic On page and Off page optimization factors

On site optimization involves
-Write content that is deliberately designed to attract links towards it .
-Title optimization
-Important HTML tags .
-Meta tags optimization .
-Keyword optimization and synonyms .
-Link optimization .
-Image optimization

Off site optimization involves
-Social media optimization
- Blogging (including guest blogging and blogg commenting)
- Create mini-sites and small blogs to pump links to your main site .
- Submit your RSS feeds to feed directories
- Video marketing
I use ‘Keyword Country’ as a tool for checking the profitability of keywords and it works for me.
