Well now that I think about it, it's not so much that they are wrong as much as it is about them not showing every keyword phrase available. Somebody once commented on my old thread saying they thought I was leaving money on the table by not going after 2 word phrases with high exact search count. Well I think he was wrong. I've been looking into using Google analytic's to to see how people got to my sites, and what pages received the most traffic.
Keyword Tools Are Wrong

Well I think he was wrong. I've been looking into using Google analytic's to to see how people got to my sites, and what pages received the most traffic.
Guess what, the articles with the most traffic were the ones with analytic phrases as post titles, also these same phrases have a search count of 0 when checking Google keyword tool. I guess they just include those searches in broad/phrase counts.
Here are some stats from articles with analytic phrases as post titles. This info is from a 12 month time frame.
Visits
article 1- 725
article 2- 667
article 3-525
article 4- 359
article 5-327
article 6-310
article 7-297
article 8-217
article9- 213
article 10- 151
These were all pages people found in serps, all pages have a average time of 1 min at least, which means they stayed to read these articles.
Now of course there are people like these numbers aren't impressive , especially if your talking about a time frame of a year.
Think about this, a large authority site with 500 pages, let's say each page will only receive 300 visits in a year, that would still come out to 150,000 visits a year, and 12,500 a month. Now in a high paying niche with adsense and cpa offers you could very well make a couple thousand from that traffic.
Now let's double those figures, let's say you take the time out to make a 1,000 page site. You would be looking at receiving 300,000 visits a year, and 25,000 visits a month.
Most of the traffic you will receive will be from keywords that suppose to have a search count of 0.
If you take the time to build a large, quality site the traffic/money will come. Don't rush things, so many of you want to see money 2 weeks after making a site, and when you don't you think what ever methods you were following don't work.
Also I've said it before and I'll say it again, follow principles of making a good site, not what I'm doing or the next guy that say's hey I make 5,000 a month from doing blah, blah, blah.
Make 2 year plan, build a large site in a niche with high paying keywords, promote your sites using social media and any other way you can think of.
If you start thinking of thing in terms of years and not weeks you'll be better off, also once you change your thinking to years and thousand page site, your income will rise to more than what you had originally imagined.
Also think about this, I'm talking about receiving all this traffic directly to your sites. If you take a 2 word phrase that has 30,000 exact searches you automatically have to cut that in half, so if your number 1 you'll probably get 15,000 visits, and the number of visits just decrease the lower your position is in the serps.
But the figures above aren't from a keyword phrase that you have to subtract, those figures are what you will get from your site. Think about ranking for hundred or thousands of keywords not just one keyword because it has a high search volume.
