It would seem that someone is sending adwords ppc traffic to my website. I see In my stats today I have had three referred links to an article on the site from:

http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/ads?.... and all the rest.

Why would someone send google ads to an article on my site, has anyone ever heard of this before?

i hope that it's not a hacker that is doing this. Sometimes competitors can do this as well in order to hurt your site, which I find sad.

I think it is happening as I am getting so many spammy trackbacks and links I see recently. I had just never heard of black hat seo using paid links to try hurt my site.

Well, paid links to bad neighborhood sites can get your adwords account banned, and also might act like a black mark for all the other sites (like yours) that are also linked to it. I am not sure that actually matters beyond getting the adwords account banned.. but maybe it does.. and maybe someone is doing an experiment at your expense to see if it does.

I would assume that this is an attempt by a competitor to get your site flagged as a bad neighborhood (i.e. porn, gambling, illegal activity). The adwords is probably just a part of the campaign to get your site re-classified by google.

A rather poor attempt, too, IMO. This gives you the opportunity to actually track the person behind this smear campaign with google's help. I suggest you inform Google about this, they may be able to actually do something.
