I've noticed my sites jumping around all over the place lately... probably because of my spammy SEO style being a newb!.

So what do you guys think works now to build backlinks that help increase your rankings..
  1. Article Directories
  2. Bookmarking
  3. Social Bookingmarking
  4. Web 2.0
  5. Social Media
  6. Wiki Links
  7. Blog Comments
  8. Forum Profiles
  9. Forum Messages
  10. Video Submission
  11. Guest Posting on Blogs
  12. Link Wheels

I'm sure I've missed loads of stuff too... BUT

What do you use now?
What won't you go near for fear of losing rankings?

What tools SEO tools do you use now?
What tools have you kicked to the curb recently?

Let's try and build a list together

Remove Forum profiles and blog comments from your list, rest are fine to build backlinks.

How many more of these lists do we need where 98% of the contributors do not know what they are talking about. You can always see them coming - they usually have "SEO" somewhere in their usernames and have spammy sig links. Honestly, can we stop the nonsense now?

I don't mean to be rude, but the whole point in me joining this forum was to learn some SEO advice and IM.. I do not sell anything here, have spam links in my signature, I'm making $0 online right now.

My focus is learning exactly what I need to do to build a success website that will rake well for long tail keywords.

I've only been learning since Feb/March so you can be assured I'll be offering no advice or selling anything here...

Forum profiles will still help (apparently) if they are relevant to the blog you have. So if you have a blog about pets, comment on pet blogs. I believe part of the Penguin update was degrading the link juice of forum profile comments from non-relevant blogs.

  • just do this step this is my style of ranking my sites.
do some Blog Comments target it to Wiki Links and the wiki target
to the Social Bookmarking Sites and the Social Bookmarking target to the
Social Network Sites and Social Network will only target the Money Site.

I can do that manual if you want that your money site will not be spam again.

As mentioned above, forum / blog links aren't cancer, just make sure that they are coming from places that are relevant to your KW(s) / niche. Still though, do your best to build better links from more reputable relevant sources.

Quality over quantity in a sense. All the forum links in the world can still be outranked by the guy who did it right with links that carry some weight.
