  • Great list, thanks... just please be careful when using too many ping sites. I recently read an article in which the author CLAIMS Matt Cutts told him that too many ping requests could delay or hurt a post's index into Google. Someone posted the link in another thread a few days ago.

I'm sure using a few of these is fine though!

    • Can you please share the post/article you read? So I can read them too.

Ping sites help me get my site indexed real faster. I have 15+ ping sites on my wordpress sites.
    • I've never heard about that, Where's the authority?

Not a bad list. Will come in handy for future use.

    • Hi bswanson. You are welcome. ^^

Hi Seadragon. Thanks for clicking on the thanks button. ^^
  • I have a question about ping. First I don't know the main reason for pinging the websites. If everyone is doing it then I also do it. Can anyone explain?

Also if I am using google xmlsitemap plugin that submits the sitemap after every post do we still need pinging ?

I have a new website without any modification to any ping settings. All the posts are getting indexed to google in 2-3 days. So what will be the benefit of pinging ?

    • The main reason for pinging the website is to tell the Google bot that new website has been launched or changes have been made or new products/services has been added in the existing website. So you're just inviting Google bot to crawl the website so that they could update their database.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks

    • Hi rajat2k2k,

You need pinging because by adding the list of ping sites, you are actually telling and allowing them to receive immediate updates that you have fresh content on your blog whenever you modify or add a new post.

The benefit of pinging is that it is a faster method of letting people know about your site.

  • Thanks everyone for explaining the pinging concept.

I still have one question unanswered. Google XML sitemap plugin also tells google bing and yahoo that a new post is there on the website With the new website sitemap so that it can be crawled easily. Why do we need both then !

    • Hi! First of all, thanks for the useful list!

Then... I think that if you publish a new post and the SITEMAP is AUTOMATICALLY UPDATED, then SUBMITTED to Google... It's almost the same to do a pinging. You alert Google about an update.

      But it's a generic advice.

Maybe, pinging your new post woth many sources will stimulate and accelerate the indexing of the new page, this is what I think at least.
  • Skip the ping sites, they don't help.

    • Does anyone agree with this post?

I don't know if this is right or not.
    • It would be better if you can provide some evidence as well. I believe it does help (especially to get index fast )
  • I assure you, pinging works about the same as doing nothing at all. Same for putting your links through RSS feeds. A lot of gurus were telling people to do this in 2009, when it was somewhat effective. Now, the only people telling you this are rehashing outdated information. I'm only here to provide good information for folks with less experience, so I don't care what anyone else tries to tell you, pinging does not work. And excessive pinging will surely make you look like a spammer.
  • I only do things that have proven results. ^^

    • Who proved it to you? Have you ever created a set of links and tested yourself? I because I have.

I've used Backlink Energizer, Backlinks Indexer, Xindexer, Linklicous, private blog networks, pinging, and submitting RSS feeds. And I can tell you from experience PINGING DOES NOTHING for getting those links indexed.

If you don't want to listen, then fine. But stop spreading misinformation and having inexperienced SEOrs wasting their time and wondering why there backlinks aren't getting indexed.

      Please stop. Thank you.
