I have doing a lot of reading and think I am getting a handle on what all I need to do for my on-page SEO. I do however need a little clarification on a few items, Since I will do using H1, H2 and H3 Title Tags do I need to also have a visible post title? I am using the approach where I have a very targeted keyword that I am tying to get ranked for, which I was able to get a domain that contained the exact phrase keyword. Now does every post on my site need to be optimized for that keyword or can I have different posts and different pages that are on page optimized for LSI keywords related to my main keyword?

Ex. Lets say my main keyword was "Getting out of Debt" which it is not!

domain is: gettingoutofdebt.com

On my home page I will have a article about "Getting out of debt and of course I would have H1, H2 and H3 title tags that contain :Getting out of Debt, do I also need a post title as well, wouldn't that be redundant?

Now my other pages would also have articles, do those articles and pages need to be optimized for "Getting out of debt or could I use a LSI keyword for those pages such as getting out of Credit Card Debt, how to become completely debt free, etc?

Before I start wrtting all of my articles and posts and devote all of this time and effort I would like to start from the begging correctly.

  • 1) Place your post title between the H1 tags.

    2) Optimize your home page and 1 or 2 other posts for your main keyword. Then feel free to create as many other pages/posts that are optimized for their own related keywords.

    3) I would suggest having your exact keyword in the H1 tag only. You can then place a partial match or LSI keyword in other headings.


    Over optimizing your niche sites for one particular keyword may not be the wisest idea during these post-penguin days. Create your sites for the users as much as possible. Of course, continue to put your exact match keyword in the title tag, h1 tag, bold and italics tags, and in the URL. Other than that, I would be careful about how many times you place the kw in the text.

    • adding to that... try to make your homepage 1000+ words long and each post about 550 words... also keep your keyword density in mind, 2% is a good target.

      Choose some extra low traffic keywords in advance (use whatever kw research tool you're using for this) and use them for your posts, also don't forget images with relevant ALT tags!
  • Thanks for the help guys, exactly what I needed to know, I have read that the alt tags for photos show be my KW, good idea or bad idea?

  • I personally rarely use my main keyword as ALT tags on images... best to use related keywords!
