What's the quickest you've ever ranked a new site?

I'm not talking about a site that you've owned for years, I'm talking about a site you bought, then started doing SEO for immediately.

So from the day you bought a site, whats the shortest time you've achieved page 1 for a keyword?

I'm pretty sure my record is around 3-4 weeks without using automated software. I'd love to hear some other quick times for keywords.

Try to include the time frame and HOW you ranked a new site quickly.

Created a pretty terrible looking Amazon review site for mechanical keyboards, ranked #5 in less than 24 hours.

In general, if the niche you picked is hot an lucky enough to create a site people love and like to share it within their own network then the chances are it will spread like a fire. Else may take ages to make it popular and also by putting so much effort in researching and link building.

We ranked a site within 36 hours. This was using video and social networking techniques.

We used twitter and facebook plus also using web 2.0 with a unique written article with picture and videos and then hit that web 2.0's with some blog comments manually done which were in the same niche as the site we was targeting to rank.

We've found that google love social links and web 2.0's at the minute.

I did it with a EMD in 6 days. The only backlinking I did itially was bookmarks to get it indexed. That was when EMD mattered though. I am pretty sure that wouldn't happen now.

The hardest one I did was 14 days for 748,000,000 results and [2 million] exact searches, EMD. I sent around 600 PR 4/5/6/7 links to it... most of them were highly relevant. Other than that low search EMD are easy, 24 hours...

Can you give some ideas as to how about this in this current Penguin climate? Especially if you don't have access to high quality relevant backlinks.

It's definately going to be harder to rank competitive terms now and take alot longer, although some sites I was competing against didn't have any backlinks really, just a decent Youtube channel with 30k subs an FB page with 10k fans and 140 links decent links, that's it - you don't need to go nuts like I did..

You can do it using Youtube, get a stupid video -fresh, viral, watch news for breaking stories, upload it, put your link on it and on your channel, link your site to your channel, buy some hits and watch it go viral, tell people to sub you, it has a good effect.. then you won't need as many links as you will have social popularity. Same with FB, create a few stupid viral pages and put your link on it...

Having said that, I'm not saying this is the right way to build links, it was EMD and way too over-optimized with a ridiculous amount of exact anchor high pr links, Penguin killed it dead as I was spamming it to death but I made a few thousand dollars out of the time it was on the hompage, I got it to number #1 in .ca and number #2 in the UK.

I use a number of techniques to rank sites, the main one using scrapebox and drupal footprints, high pr forum footprints. I also have a collection of around 50 custom footprints for finding dofollow high pr blogs and other platforms that I take advantage of, but like I said this really isn't nesssesary anymore. I was going to do a WSO on it but alot of people just aren't interested.

Take news.yahoo.com/sports/ for example. I can remember when this site ranked on Google for the keyword sports news with only 200 links, now it's got around 2000 now, but look at all the other sites, some of them have over 500000 links.

If your going after competive niches you need social, plus a handful of good quality links to make it...

Does the video need to be related to your niche?

If you ask me it doesn't matter, you don't need an offical page, just a personal YT page, what matters is that you've got your vids, channel and site linked up properly, same with FB page link both ways.

...and then sending the video viral. I use a few sites to check out for good videos liveleak can be a good one, or just watching and videoing the news for breaking stories that everyone is going to be searching for..

Can you remember the guy that was dancing around in the street and got hit by an ice cream van? LOL, I picked this up straight away and posted to my channel, the geezer was a rapper so I gave him a link to his latest album.

Then I order 10k hits to get it going. If you're going to do this then make sure you have a reliable supplier as some can take ages to deliver hits, or if you have a few large twitter accounts post the vids or post them on relevant pages on FB and sometimes people will pick them up and share them.

If big authority site owners pick them up from Youtube and post them on their own sites just make sure not to leave any crap on the annotations, like click here for itunes BS they hate that. Maybe it's good idea to contact a few big sites too, there are a few big video sites in Russia were you can submit content, when they approve it gets tons of hits!

You can use forums too, some of the big forums allow videos in the sigs, just make loads of posts on the forum, and then when you have fresh vids put them in your sig for viral views..

The vid I posted hit around 500k views within 30 days or something, my site and channel and vid was all linked up and the site started dancing, I started throwing a few high pr links at it and it disappeared then hit #2 for a really good term 2 weeks later, I made around $7,000 from that site in the last 12 months, it stayed there for over 2 years with no work.

When ppl sub you on YT, a video will get posted to their feed, if you have your link on it, that will be posted too, so when a video goes big time loads of people will sub/like the video and comment and when you check your backlinks you will see yt.com/user/me x 500 or so depending on how well the vid did.

Once it goes viral, maybe put Adsense on it for extra $$$.

Yeah that depends, if you make a numpty of yourself often like getting hit by a bus then this could work, but most of the content I pick up is not mine, I don't use it for making money, I credit the source and use it for seo.. but you could stick a few aff links on it I suppose.

Have gotten to #3 in as fast as 24 hours. Have also barely made it into the top 10 pages after a week or more. It all depends on how competitive the niche is, and how you optimize your keywords, and how you manage your linkbuilding strategy

It's pretty interesting that most of you saw quick results only using social bookmarking, web 2.0 profiles and social media outlets. I would have thought that high pr backlinks would be the biggest factor but apparently not.

It is sad state of affairs that folks have to become creative to do SEO now. People have to make youtube video, gets lot of hits, hope to get picked up by other sites with links to their site etc etc. Can't we go back to 2009?

It would be nice, but until you've tried it you'll never know the power of what Youtube can really do for your website.

Youtube has 4 billion pageviews per day and it's not really that hard to figure out what people are looking for, you can use G hot trends to get a good idea.

At the time my other site hit the top of Google it only had around 40 backlinks, all the other sites had around 7,000, it took me only 5 mintues to post the video..

There are loads of big business using YT for seo, budweiser and T-Mobile making stupid fake videos that look real but go viral. T-Mobile's site has gone from strength to strength just off the back of stupid YT vids, they outranked one of my mobile sites the same time their video went viral.

For some of my smaller niche, less competitive Adsense terms in the past, I'd rank in under 24 hours with strong on-page SEO, which people tend to overlook.
