When I woke up this morning I was thinking "I hope Google radically changes something else without asking anyone!"

This may go down as the CNN Update since I too got a CNN alert about it. More information here at Mashable.

I don't know what it will do for SEO. But it seems more designed towards the users searching experience vs the results experience. How it gets those results will defintiely have people changing SEO strategies. Looks like a limited roll out right now.

The search for 'Kings' makes sense. They aren't sure what exactly you're looking for.

Good luck to Google with that. Personally I am finding bing has caught up and is as good as Googe, if not slightly better. The only thing that ensures people continue to use Google is familiarity.

That's what they're counting on. People are lazy and stick with what they know. That's why Google quit trying

        Are you kidding me?!?!?!?!?!?!

If that were true, bing would have a monopoly.

Their windows and IE comes standard, as well as bing
        for default search engine.

But guess what? People use firefox, chrome, and .....GOOGLE
        for search.

If people are industrious enough to download and install
firefox or chrome, they could be industrious to type in
bing. Maybe people choose chrome because it IS google.

Lazy? Hardly. People CHOOSE to ditch MS in a heart beat.

My theory on why chrome gets a boost on the weekends is that
people are home using their own computers. They leave
the MS thing back at the office. And choose to use chrome.

Oh what a relief it is!

Well for one with more distractions the click through rate on some results might decrease

Before I even started reading this link (I read CNN link first), my first thought was "What's Google going to do now, scrape Wikipedia?", lol, they mentioned Wikipedia.

What's funny is guys on this forum still ask what's the correct keyword density (ha, ha ). The key is keyword relevancy, Google likes to group relevant pages/keywords.

So really, since Google has been doing keyword relevancy for a long time now, looks like all their doing is adding more content to the SERPs lower right sidebar, which most times is blank/white space anyways, I bet that lower right sidebar CTR sucks. If it has a thumbnail image the lower right sidebar content might (big might) do ok with CTRs, but I'm sure any hyperlinks on the lower right sidebar get overlooked. I mean really, who has an awesome CTR on their lower right sidebar (anyone?)?

I agree with you, Yukon. But it for me it will be interesting if they are aiming at providing more information at the top of the results page - actually delivering what the searcher wants, rather than linking to other sites that have it. Like they do now with currency exchange rates, sums, conversions etc. May affect certain types of sites.

I dont think people use chrome for any magical reason apart from the fact its easy to use, easy to set up, looks pretty and its fast. Also people like google because of the search, people like the fun stuff they do with their logo and stuff like that. They dont think like us webmasters.

The real issue is that Googles search results are very bad at the moment. I have been having to use bing a lot just to find stuff. Also I have noticed the amount of traffic coming to my website via bing increasing. Maybe its not just me who's using it more?
