One thing that I can say is that anchor diversity is one of the key, I say that when you will use that to make your link look natural.

About this I would suggest to use secondary long tail kw to provide anchor diversity and less general anchor (click here, read this, see more..etc) like some say.

I suggest that since we still see backlinks as a way to rank our website for specific kw.

So I do use SB or adwords to find relevant secondary kw based on my main kw and then use them as anchor on my backlinks, more than that I do start to build pages to my website that have those secondary kw in the url and build backlinks to them with the correspond kw as anchor.

I suggest to use those secondary kw as your anchor for 2 reason:

1. because you can find in the position to be ranked for a few of those and this will bring you extra traffic and also anchor diversity
2. I will use those instead of generic anchor text since you build a backlink so G will consider that some one make a reference to your website when talking about something and this way give your website credential when some one else search for the same words. So if you do not want to rank for "click here" I will sugest to use secondary kw that have you main kw in them.
