What works now are the same things that have been working for the last decade - build your brand and authority. Do outreach, guest articles, quality paid directories, paid links that look natural and editorial, quality press releases and just generally create content that attracts links.

Okey, that's good old SEO as I know it.

I'm most confused with the statements that backlinks with anchor text
keywords no longer work. If that's true, how to rank for a specific keyword then?

      No links :)

Where did you read that anchor text keywords no longer work?

They still do matter, but Google has gotten better at analyzing a page. If your link has no anchor text, but is surrounded by content that is relevant it still helps you.

So if you're trying to create the appearance of a natural backlink profile, you'll need to mix it up. Most say that a ratio of 50-60% targeted anchor text is good post-penguin. I'll say that as low as 33% is fine and even better if you mix it up with related phrases, generic terms like click here, and the url itself.

And what's yor message? Is that your contribution to this question?

Quoting that sentence from my website is kind a childish because you don't know me.

That website of mine was last year #4 for the keyword 'make money online', #2 for the keyword 'online business', #10 for 'make money', etc.
So much about my knowledge of SEO before Panda/Penguin.

Since I was preoccupied by other priorities, I just didn't have time to give any attention to Panda/Penguin changes and impacts at all. But that can be learned and mastered as anything else.

You're a fraud, man. You should remove your link. The same good SEO tactics still work post panda. If you don't know them, then you're a crap IM.

I know them probably much better than you ever will. Posting such worthless insults only reveals the big vacuum in your head.

ilovechinesefood: Just shut up, go back to sippin your soup or chop suey and quit acting like a complete moron.

            Alminc,

I found that I do much better if I don't put a lot of emphasis on the recent Panda or Penguin updates. The big clue for both updates is to remain relevant with on-page as well as off-page seo. Balance your seo effort equally between on-page and off-page.

            That's basically it.

As far as SEM, that most ppl still refer to as seo, stay within the target market and encourage social interaction.

One thing that I can say is that anchor diversity is one of the key, I say that when you will use that to make your link look natural.

About this I would suggest to use secondary long tail kw to provide anchor diversity and less general anchor (click here, read this, see more..etc) like some say.

I suggest that since we still see backlinks as a way to rank our website for specific kw.

So I do use SB or adwords to find relevant secondary kw based on my main kw and then use them as anchor on my backlinks, more than that I do start to build pages to my website that have those secondary kw in the url and build backlinks to them with the correspond kw as anchor.

I suggest to use those secondary kw as your anchor for 2 reason:

    1. because you can find in the position to be ranked for a few of those and this will bring you extra traffic and also anchor diversity
    2. I will use those instead of generic anchor text since you build a backlink so G will consider that some one make a reference to your website when talking about something and this way give your website credential when some one else search for the same words. So if you do not want to rank for "click here" I will sugest to use secondary kw that have you main kw in them.
