How to check what keywords you rank for, if any?

Title says it all. I'm having difficulty finding out (for free) what keywords I rank for. I'm pretty sure people don't google their keyword and scroll 10-20 pages just to find their site for that particular keyword. Especially if you have 10+.

Is there any online tool or software where you can check what you're ranking for?

Thanks.

This isn't free, but Shane Melaugh's SECockpit keyword tool now includes a Rank Tracker which is pretty accurate.

I suggest that you give Google Webmaster tools a chance to prove its worth. After your website gets verified and enough data is collected, Google Webmaster tools will give you the information you need—the keywords that can affect your website’s ranking if ever you use them. This tool would also give you information about a keyword’s average ranking placement.

Why not give this a try? Anyway, it doesn’t cost anything to get hooked up with this tool.

        Good luck.

You can then sort the keywords in order of rank and copy them into Google Adwords Tool to see if they have 1000+ searches per month and so are worthwhile to use for SEO. For example, my website www.northcyprusfreepress.com ranks in the Google UK top 10 for 'old git wine' but as only 170 searches are made for that keyword per month, and we don't sell it, being in the top 10 brings few visitors - 10 per month to be precise, the 6% of total searches as expected for its position.

Get hooked up with Google Webmaster tools. Once your site is verified and it's collected enough data, it'll show you a comprehensive list of terms that trigger your site as a result as well as average ranking placement.

It certainly isn't 100% accurate, but it's free and comes right from the source. It has a lot of other great functionality as well.

If you have no idea what keywords are ranked, but have analytics installed, just check which keywords are getting you clicks through the search engines. Then go to the search engines and check manually.

If you know which keywords are likely getting you clicks then you can use Rank Checker

I actually do go to Google.com and look for it. You don't have to go 10 at the time, though. If you go under options in the top right corner, you can adjust it to show you 100 sites at a time. Then I just copy my URL, hit control+F, and do that for every page until I find it. 10 pages to search the top 1000, takes me 1-2 minutes to do. I don't need to do this daily, just 1-2x per week.

I should say there isn't such a tool if all people above have understood your question.

We use similar methods like J's. Ctrl+F is a good tool to use.

Semrush is good but you get a limited search (10 a day I think from memory)

There is also SeoSerp which if you know your keywords will tell you where you rank.

I'm constantly amazed by the number of people who really don't give a sh*t about making a post that is in anyway helpful. (above)

But then, there are others who offer excellent help which is right on the money. (below)

Google Webmaster tools are great, but for SERP checking they don't offer real time SERP checking. Their data is few days old and you can't check SERPs for specific keywords. If it isn't in their report, you don't know if it is ranking at all.

SEMRush.com is free and online. No download required. You can only check so many a day and you only get the top ones for free but it will give you a pretty good idea.

You don't even have to create an account even though they will ask you to.

Just go to the site and type in the site you want to check, but remember, you are limited to number of checks a day.

The free Traffic Travis version can help too but I've found it can be slow and you are limited to the number of sites and keywords you can check in the free version.

You can use serpfox.com to check up to 10 keywords for free and that could be 5 sites and 2 keywords each or 10 sites one keyword or 1 site and 10 keywords.

No download required but limited to 10 keywords in the free version and you have to select the keywords.

Tracking where you already rank does not alert you to potential areas of opportunity that you have not yet focused on, but it is easier to rank for keywords related to words you already rank well for than it is to rank for a whole new basket of keywords. You can use Advance web ranking tool to check it
