Confusion on Ranking!

I am still very new at this and only have three sites up and running all within the last two weeks. I have been doing everything that I am supposed to do, making sure my on page SEO is where it needs to be (keyword density, H1, H2 and H3 headers etc). I am also manually submitting the URLs to bookmarking sites and creating manual back-links. Here is what I don't understand, I see people claiming that there sites are page 1 or page 2 on google after only a week or so, when I check my page rank I get a message that the site is too new to show rank. First how can you tell what rank your site is if it isn't in the top ten as the tools I have been able to find only terll you if you are in the top 10. How long does it really take before you know your true rank with Google? I do not want to wast time and money if what I am doing isn't going to cut it. I don't want to think I am not doing enough and spend more time and money if not needed.

Thanks

You can't really compare yourself to others unless they are going after the same keywords as you. It all depends on the difficulty of the keywords you are going after.

So it's possible to get to page 1 in google in a week or so, but usually only for lower competition keywords. So your keywords might be more difficult to rank than the people you are comparing yourself to. Some keywords could take 6 months to a year to rank on page 1 in google.

How many exact match searches does your keyword get in the google keyword tool?

There is no rhyme or reason to search engine rankings. Some websites are perfectly optimized with plenty of backlinks and still don't rank well with Google. You just have to keep plugging away. The biggest thing aside from both quality and quantity of backlinks is using anchor text when creating backlinks.

Are you referring to the global searches, when I do a keyword search for my keyword a click "exact" only it gives me 800 results but most are not anywhere near my keyword.

I've ranked website overnight it's all about the keyword research and the tools you use.

I use rankerizer to check my websites rankings as well

It's free but requires an opt in (luckily I have a spam email for opt ins )

Type in serp checker into google and use one of the free tools. By your wording of 'manual backlinks' it sounds like you're just doing blog commenting, am I right? You'll need a solid link to start ranking. Blog commenting and directories are crap. Remember, if it's an easy link to obtain, in all likelihood it's not a good link.

Let me ask you a q-how do you plan on obtaining links? Based on your keywords and answer, I can tell you if you're wasting your time.

Ps- the new google updates really minimizes on page SEO. Don't stress too much about it. Make sure you got a good meta description and you're using your keywords as your heading tags

Keep doing all of your offsite optimization. You'll get your expected rank.Don't do it very fast. It'll be looked like unnatural in google eye.So do it naturally.

It depends on how stiff the competition is. And how you target your keywords. For example, you can even rank a keyword/phrases (mostly long tail) in one night if that particular phrase hasn't receiving any searches.

So it always depends. About tools, don't rely on them too much because no tools are 100% accurate in giving information about rankings.

Better check your competitors, their backlinks, and other stuffs that will help you. Focus on that first and you will be on the right track.
