Hey everybody,

I've noticed that my site is pretty slow. I confirmed my suspicions when I checked the page speed vs my competitors. Can any kind Warrior member give me some hints. Please message me if you're willing to be kind of enough to help, I'd rather not put my site on display.

I have a word press theme site and several widgets. Can this be the culprit?

You might look at some of your plugins. I used to have one called StatCounter or something like that, and it really slowed my site down.

I would deactivate one by one to see if it is a plugin. There are also cache plugins you can get to help speed things up a bit.

      Good idea. I'll try that.

And the poster above me, I am reluctant to put my site up in a public forum like this. Id appreciate your input if you wouldn't mind me messaging you.

It could be more helpful to answer if you mentioned your site in first post.

Check with Google Page Speed tools - it might help you in analyzing the issue

Thanks, very useful. Scored a 68, I'm guessing that's pretty bad. I had 2 high priority items: Leverage browser caching, Combine images into CSS sprites.

Would that cache plugin that the poster above me referred fix problem number 1?

I'd start by disabling all of your plugins, then enabling them one by one. It can be a number of things. Too many plugins can cause slowness, poorly coded themes and even poor performing/overloaded hosting.

You should also look into a caching service such as CloudFlare to aid in reducing server load by caching static content. What I mentioned above would be a good start.

What does any of this have to do with speeding up his site? Also keep in mind, that if his site is slow loading this will also affect his rankings.

Firstly, do you have a caching plugin installed, eg:

    W3 Total Cache
    WP Super Cache
    Quick Cache
    etc

If not, that should be your number one priority.

The next step is to use CloudFlare. This will not only speed up your page load times, it also protects your site from potentially malicious sources.

Thanks everybody for the tips. I have a quick question with these cache plugins. I am only to use this if im absolutely sure my static pages aren't changing, correct? Another thing..on the bottom right of my homepage it shows my last 5 blog entries. If i use a cache plugin, will the new visitor be able to see my last 5 blog entries, rather than the 5 that were on it when I initiated the plug-in? Does this make sense at all? Thanks so much!!

I can't vouch for everything that the caching plugins mentions do (CloudFlare doesn't work the same as a plugin) . But they should not impact that at all. Your visitors still should be able to see the most recent blog posts, unless something goes horribly wrong when you configure them.

Thanks! Also, I don't think my static inner pages are set in stone. Do you think I should wait till my static pages are completely done before initiating the plugin.

Its a good idea to empty the cache after some new changes to your site.
