Which link will be counted first?

Hi,

My site is about real estate. As per client requirement we have two links for the same page in the home page.

One link is present in the scroll down sub menu in the header which is CSS and another link is present at the footer.

My doubt is which link will be read by the Google bot at first.

  • firstly, i would think it is logical that google would first see the one that loads first.

    additionally, i saw a video in which matt cutts said that they tend to give less value to the links in the footer area, considering them of lesser importance.

  • What does it matter which one will be read first? The one thats read first will be read about .0005 seconds before the other one and they will both be counted.

  • Who the heck knows. I don't know if there is a truly transparent way availaible to the public that to outlines how Google counts (indexes) links. One would assume that links positioned higher on the page would be crawled first but indexing is not quite that linear.

    • I think you people need to get with the times.
      Maybe that's why any google update is such a
      shock for many of you. You don't read much
      from google in present day.

      Google used to treat every link on a page the
      same. Over time, and especially over the last
      2-3 years, and forcefully in the last 6 months,
      link analysis has gotten better.

      Header links, navigation links, footer links,
      contextual links, etc. are right now being
      analyzed more efficiently.

      In fact, google may not choose (as I've
      always said) to index all links on a page.

      The best links to get as of this moment,
      are on one page, in a paragraph.

      This is true of all external links.

      Google has even stated that links in a blogroll
      are worthless if they can detect that it is in
      a blogroll. Not hard to do.

      You people seriously need to actually do some
      research on google and counting links.

      Yes, an external link at the bottom of a page
      might be worthless.

      Did you know that google may not even "index" your
      entire page? Wise people do wise things.

      No reason to put the same link on a page. The PR gets
      even more watered down.
