Lucrative Niches for Cynics and Skeptics?

It seems like so many of the moneymakers online are classic sham things. Some miracle product that will cure your disease. Some tactic that will fix your relationship. Of course hardly any of them are even by doctors who have a clue what they're talking about. It's depressing.

Are there any niches where you can make money if you're really against that kind of stuff? Where you really want to be genuine and authentic and not promise miracles and prefer to give people the harder realities of fixing things...that it takes work and deeper understanding and so on.

This comes from some time spent looking at various affiliate products out there, especially on Clickbank and just feeling bad even thinking of promoting most of them.

Yes there are plenty of things. Find something you need to change in your own life, research it, write a plan of action, overcome it and sell your strategy in an book (just one example). Books such as weight loss you dont need medical expertise for. They're fat because they're not active enough and eat too much, write a book to help them realise this and find easy ways to overcome it. But bear in mind some people have medical conditions that make them fat.

Think of ways to help people and then sell it. Ask yourself if your product would help you and if you would be pleased with it? If the answer is yes then other people will probably find it helpful too.

Actually, I seem to disagree with this statement. Weight loss can be a big thing for many people and your simple analysis is overlooking a significant amount of scientific factors, such as: insulin levels, metabolic rates, vitamin deficiencies and so on.

If I was paying money for a book designed to help someone lose weight I would expect the author to have at least consulted a medical specialist on the subject to ensure that his proposed diet or plan was biologically healthy and safe for your body.

Taking a popular diet plan such as the Atkins Diet and reading a few medical studies just shows you how in depth the research needs to be behind this kind of project.

One should not simply just advise people on their health based on the generalization that people are fat because they eat too much or don't exercise enough. Yes, these are often two fundamental problems, however suggestions to diet change should always be backed up by medical evidence, especially when someone is paying for it.

I know exactly what you mean, however you may have stumbled on to a style that you can apply to any of these niches.

How about picking one of these niches you see being abused and starting a blog, today even, with the sole purpose of providing useful content that doesn't try to sell cheap, quick solution products and actually helps people understand and solve their problems.

You could start by monetizing this with ads and then in the future, if you feel confident enough about the niche you have selected, you could create a product that lays out the long yet true process of success in an easy to read format.

This may not be the type of product everyone will buy, but I'm sure in the right niche there will be a large selection of people willing to pay for information that will actually help them succeed, especially those who have been burned by gimmicks in the past.

    Hope this helps =)

I've had a site like this for years. The whole reason I got into IM and this forum is that that kind of site has made me very little money. Meanwhile I see sites with these scammy products making thousands.

Also I am wanting to move away from building sites for ads to more affiliate focused sites. So I need a good affiliate product I believe in and that also converts. And I don't have time right now to put together more of my own writing or products on it. I've done a lot of that and as I say that stuff isn't very lucrative. I'm still glad I do it since I know people benefit from it but it's almost like charity, not moneymaking.

Why don't you start an actual online business. Don't hock someone's shady products if that bothers you. If you haven't noticed most of the successful people in IM have moved on to bigger real businesses like creating apps, keyword software, or their own affiliate network.

That or be an affiliate for products you use. Real tangible stuff. Amazon isn't going to make you rich but some people make a living on their affiliate program.

Many legitimate companies have affiliate programs. If they don't contact them and see if they'll let you do one.

Google Affiliate is mostly physical products.

The reason most people in IM are hocking ebooks and other garbage stuff is because the cut per sale is so high. You only tend to get a small percent from real products.

This is exactly what I'm struggling with. I've been an affiliate for some very down to earth serious products for years. But as you say these bring in so little. A couple more expensive products I've had on my site for years and years and haven't sold a single time.

The fact is you need a product that converts. That's why Clickbank is nice in that you can get some idea of which products convert and have good sales pages and so on and tap into something that is working. But it's just that the products that seem to be selling on there aren't the ones I'd like. And the ones I'd like don't seem to sell at all.

It's about trying to find that sweet spot - a product that at least converts reasonably and gives you a reasonable amount per sale but is genuine.

Yes like I said sometimes it's because of medical reasons. You dont need to be a medical expert to write about it though. If you use proper medical textbooks and papers and properly reference your work then whats the problem? Just because someone isn't qualified doesn't make them too stupid to write about it. If you want to write a good E-Book on any subject you should spend weeks or months researching it first like any decent writer does.

Many of us have no website programming or design related qualifications. On the same logic youre using, that would mean we shouldn't be allowed to make a website teaching PHP for example, even if were fluent in it.

Qualifications are just paper. I have gone to doctors before who have diagnosed me incorrectly and if it wasn't for me reading about my symptoms and coming to my own conclusions I could have been disfigured for life or worse died. Every time I have gone to the doctors I have correctly diagnosed myself where as I can't say the same for the doctors. Im not saying formal training is a waste of time I am just giving an example that passing tests doesn't make people an expert. Learning, studying from good sources and retaining the learned knowledge is whats important.
