Link Building After Penguin

Hello everyone,

I own two art based blogs that are both a year or so old. I have been running the blogs for fun but now I want to increase my traffic and revenue. One blog is geared toward graphic design and he other is geared toward traditional and digital art.

The traditional/digital based blog currently has over 100 tutorials with very very little back-links. Now that I have the articles, what link building methods would you suggest for an artist blog?

Here are some of my ideas:

-Social Bookmarking (There are a few sites where I can add some tutorials for traditional art and write tutorials but this would be more geared toward the digital tutorials.

-Slide Share( Creating Power Point presentations and uploading them to slideshare with a back-link to the full tutorial in every slide.)

-YouTube(Doing the same thing as slide share but with youtube)

-Deviant Art( Creating tutorials with the articles and submitting them to art based sites like deviantart)

-Forum Posting (I am not sure if this is very effective)

-Combining tutorials in a certain niche and submitting them to that niche( For example anime tutorials..link build through anime sites)

-Facebook/Twitter (I do not know much about seo for either other than fb has its own search engine/groups and twitter hashtags and retweets)

-I see many people use fivver gigs but im not sure if its useful.

So, I am inexperienced at link building(since this is my second blog and seo project) and would like everyone's opinions so I can develop a link building process after each tutorial or article on the site.

Thanks in advance.

You have done it. I think video marketing is best for you.You can build links in niche forums.Social bookmarking very useful after penguin.

Guest posting with contextual links is gonna fit the bill as well.

I promote local businesses online. I used Fiverr to buy 40,000 blog comments with contextual links. The guy let me spread the links over 6 accounts (sets of keywords) and he randomly selected from a list of contextual links I sent him. Literally all the Youtube videos ranked on page one of Youtube, and almost all ranked on page one of Google. We are talking about a tad over 100 videos, all improved in Google rankings for $5. He even sent me the list (Yes, a list of 40,000 links) to verify they worked. Amazing.

I would never use these services to create links to my money sites, but for Youtube videos? Sure.

      I hope this helps.

Most of the links you suggest aren't even worth doing unless you are in a low competition niche.

The links you suggested are more suited for generating direct traffic but not for SEO.

      Completely wrong

Haven't you heard of link diversity?

Not to mention Google stated they're focusing on Social media more now than ever so.... That definitely means social network/bookmarking has a bigger play these days.

Websites like deviantart are Web 2.0s what's wrong with them...?

Youtube is owned by Google and is a great supporting tier so... I'd rank it equally with social media

File sharing is an AMAZING under utilized technique...

Forum posting is great for supporting lower links tiers

I just don't see where you get the idea these are "useless" outside of low competition.

Might as well just spam High PR backlinks of one type and just cross your fingers and PRAY Google doesn't ban you....

I didn't say that thats not the correct way of link building. I've done it and experimented on it and have seen little to no SERP movement.

However, as you said Google are focusing on Social media more now and may put higher authority in those links but for now, I have not seen any big changes.

        1. Social bookmarking = Just average for SEO

        2. Slideshare = is the only one I would recommend for SEO on the list

        3. Youtube = its more for driving traffic instead of SEO

        4. DevianArt = is just 1 site and since OP is from the art niche. Links provided in the tutorials will be more towards driving direct traffic.

        5. Forum posting = the time/serp increase ratio is so little, I wouldn't even bother doing it. For T2 links as you said, it can be of some help.

        6. Facebook/twitter = Just average for SEO

Art and design is a huge niche which means there are tons of places to promote your sites besides the usual 2.0s and blog comments.

There are a bunch of social share sites like design-newz.com and sharebrain.info. Lots of blogs have places to promote your posts as well but the traffic back isn't so hot.

Deviant art is a good idea. Also Behance, Forrst and Dribbble are good places to promote, just be careful about it. There are a few graphic design forums where you can drop links.

There are lots of active designers and artist on Twitter. Get involved.

Make some freebies to give away. Turn your tutorials into videos.

      You get the idea.

Your portfolio is good, but I would recommend adding in Wiki backlinks as well. Try to make them whitehat and relevant to the wiki you add them to.

From my opinion the Link Building process didn't changed too much, except the anchors text need a lot more variations and keyword density to be reduced.....the rest is just like before the penguin update.

Yh me too agree with you , did not find much changes on forum BL effect...but bulk links from forums making problems.. participate in good forums and discuss on it but not much.. not for building links only...

It's all good if you ask me.

Youtube no good for seo and only direct traffic? only link diversity?

Sus what rock have you lot been living under...

Youtube is social popularity and yes it's dynamite for seo, you haven't done enough experimenting.

No doubt about that video marketing is much more effective after Google penguin update but you should also consider other link building techniques,Just only make sure your backlinks should be mixture of both dofollow and no follow backlinks. this is really working for me.
