My site was destroyed by penguin. Literally
900 daily visits before, NOW 70 daily visits
It was my fault regarding to overoptimization, Tough now there are plenty of
outdated and poor content sites/blogs in the first page.

My site saw a similar drop after Penguin, mainly due to overoptimization by spammers in the past. I went from ~1500 visitors per day to 40 or so.

My question is this: Does anyone have experience with Google's reconsideration request? I am considering that as my last resort before I abandon the domain.

Haven't noticed a decrease in rankings. Visitors are up about 12% overall.

Have any of you guys noticed a recovery of any sort?

One of my best websites, that was #2 for a particular keyword completely disappeared on April 24th. I've done nothing with the site to fix it.

A couple weeks ago it was in position #685.

A couple days ago it settled down to #90.

I'm leaving it alone to see if it recovers. I know what I did wrong--exactly what everyone who got hit did. I'm hoping the site will eventually recover though.

I feel your pain mate. A lot of people, even some of the best SEOs, have been hit by this update.

They said it impacted only 3% of queries compared to around 9% of Panda, but I think the impact of Penguin has been a lot more far reaching and heavy hitting than Panda, as far as I can see.

Keep your chin up, adjust your strategies and adapt. That is all any of us can do.

Penguin did not affect most of my Amazon sites. I believe this is due to the way I build them and my non-existent backlinking strategy.

What to do if any site effected this update:

Here are four suggestions to start cleaning up your site:

      * If you have links from too many unrelated sites, such as directories, either remove some or try to get more links from related sites. You should have links from related websites at the minimum at 20 percent of your overall links.

      * If you have too many keyword links coming in, then vary your keywords and mix your brand name and URL in the links. Have at least 20 percent of your keyword links be non-keyword or brand-based.

      * If you are doing sponsored links, be careful! Cancel or remove any links you have from footers. Remove any sponsored links that don't include a text description next to it. Contextual links are much better, meaning it's better to have links from within text content of a website.

      * Make the above changes a few at a time and wait a few days to see if rankings come back, before proceeding. However, Penguin will only run periodically like Panda, so it could be weeks before any affected websites recover their rankings.

Here are my great tips on how to beat the “Penguin”:

    1. Remove Paid Text Links Using Exact Match Anchor Text: You must avoid sponsored or paid links that use exact match anchor tag keywords.
    2. Remove Comment Spam: Another easy footprint for Google to spot! Avoid using automated link building tools.
    3. Remove Guest posts on questionable sites: Most “private” blog networks that allow you write a guest post/article, which you would upload it, many of their networks have all been identified by Google.
    4. Remove Article Marketing Sites: Links from article marketing sites have been classified as being unnatural links by Google
    5. Avoid Links from Dangerous Sites: Sites that have been flagged for malware, numerous pop-ups, link farms or other spammy issues are another indicator causing sites to lose rankings in the Google SERPs.
    6. Focus on Social Media Links: Social Media Links have increased over 25% in estimated value to Search Engines this year alone. This is because SE’s know they are from real people – for the most part.
    7. Focus on relevant Directory Links: Directories are a great way to get links – especially if they are relevant to your website. How do you know which directories to get? Simple: Just type “[your field] directories” into Google and you will get a long list of good directories to get listed in.
    8. Focus on Press Releases – Adding a photo or an image increases views of the release by 14%.
    9. Focus on sharable content on your Press Release: Adding a video gives you a 28% increase in views.
    10. Press Releases Sharable: Add a Video, Info-graphic, Image and a Download to each: Go all the way and put in a photo, a video, a graphic and a download and you’ll see a 78% jump in the number of views!
