So right now we're hitting about $80 per day on residual income by building niche sites and utilizing Google Adsense. Our new goal is to push it up to $240 per day by the end of June.

The plan is simple.

We research keywords using Long Tail Pro and SEMRush.
We're looking for keywords with:

At least 1000 exact local search volume
At least $1 CPC

In the first page of Google the competition is:
Low PR (looking to see at least 2 PR 0)
Keyword not in description and title
Low quantity/quality backlinks

We're paying special attention to keywords that have other "sniper sites" (sites that contain the keyword in their domain name). A lot of times seeing this is a good sign that we can rank in the top 10.

For backlinks we will be using 2 different strategies:

1) Magic submitter to build 2 layers of backlinks. First layer is Web 2.0, Article Directories, Videos, Social Bookmarks. Second layer is Social Bookmarks and RSS.

2) Using a VA to simply build high PR Backlinks with various types of sites.

In order to accomplish our $240 per day goal we'll probably need to build about 50-60 sites this month. We also are going to try to stick in an authority site in there somewhere. It's going to be a crazy month.... especially since my partner and I have both scheduled a week for vacation in between all of this. I guess that's why they say "work hard, play hard"
#$240 #day #goal

Wow bro, you just inspired me. I guess I'll keep magic submitter . You mentioned 2 layers of backlinks. Are all the layers coming from MS? Or are you manually submitting the first layer and then utilize MS for the second layer?

I really don't know how to use the "campaign" part of MS, where you place the tiers and what not. I just feel like it will mess things up.

    Mosa,

    One Question.

When you analyze the competition do you only do the site if it looks like you can get to #1 or #2? Or will you go ahead if you think you can get in the top 10 anywhere? Like if the top 3 spots are really high PR, tons of backlinks, but #7 and #8 look very beatable will you still do it?

The reason I ask is that with 1000 searches a month, getting #7 or #8 in my experience is bringing like 3 or 4 visitors a day. Is it even worth doing?

Free traffic is free traffic which is the appeal of ranking high in search engines. Sounds like these guys are just building a high quantity of sites and letting them make money little by little which will add up to be a ton of income for each individual. It's a lot of work but well worth it. Expert site seems to be where he will focus the majority of his time.

For some sites we use tier linkbuilding that mentioned earlier with magic submitter (method was inspired by Pat Flynn's 'backlinking that works' post), for other sites we've been using a VA seo team that we hired on Odesk to do some backlinking. For this we just searched workers on odesk that did SEO, and then talked to them to understand their qualifications and experience. Some of the original sites had Unique Article Wizard and My Article Network linking to them.

All of the linking strategies we've tried have worked so far. The UAW and MAN may be the worst, but it is the strategy we used to rank one of our highest earning sites.

Thanks for the reply to my question earlier. But I don't feel you've answered quite what I was asking.

        My question is this:

If you see a keyword with 1000 exact local searches a month and it looks from the competition analysis like you can get to say #7 or #8, but not to #1 or #2, do you still go after it or not?

Again, the reason I ask is that if there are 1000 exact local searches (granted sometimes the keyword tool is off, but when it is correct), then you are talking about like 33 searches a day. So being at #7 or #8, you will probably only get 3 or 4 clicks from that keyword? Even with other long tails or whatever, maybe you get 10 a day.

So in that scenario do you still go after the keyword?

Everyone talks about top 10 analysis, however when I've gotten to #5 or 6 for a 1000 search keyword and gotten almost no traffic everyone said "Well of course. #1 and #2 are taking almost all of it." And my response is "Well then why do we even do top 10 competition analysis on those keywords with 1000? Why not only do top 2 competition analysis?"
That's actually a really good question. I would not go for a keyword that has 1000 exact match searches unless I think I can get into the top 4 positions.

Even if the CPC says something like $4.50 CPC, I still wouldn't bother because Google doesn't normally pay out that high. It's probably because most companies don't want to invest high CPCs on the Google Content Network (ads on websites). Rather the high CPC comes from Ads on the SERPs.

To answer your other question. I would always analyze the top 10 even though I want the top 3 positions. This is because the more you analyze, the more information you get. The power of sites in the ranking is sometimes deceiving. So the more sites you get to analyze, the clearer the picture becomes.

All the layers are coming from MS. For some reason tough, my MS is failing to send youtube videos, so I end up having to have those made manually. Also why wouldn't you use the campaign? The campaign editor works like a charm and it's the easiest way to build projects...in my opinion.

1000 exact local searches is normally minimum guideline that I shoot for. However, If I think I can get the #1 spot pretty easily I'll take keywords that have 700 or 800 searches. Also if a keyword has for example, 4k+ exact local searches, then ranking #5 or 6 can still give me decent traffic.

Furthermore, from our tests so far I noticed google keyword tool is actually OFF a lot. In general the number of searches they show is close to the REAL number of searches. However, once in a while they're just dead wrong. That's why I would never ever put all my hope into one niche - and then call it quits if I don't achieve what I expect.

I currently have a keyword that's ranked #1 and the keyword tool showed 10k exact match searches... but the site gets far less traffic then it should.

Well, I first started building sites with only 500 words of content for the main article. They didn't seem to rank as well. But honestly I didn't really test this that well because those earlier sites also had crappy meta tags and descriptions and a weaker backlinking plan. Out of our first batch of 16 sites only 2 of them earned us any money. However, now that we've made changes 8 out of 10 sites rank and are earning money.

I should note though, that one of our top earning sites came from the first batch. It earns about $150 per month even though we have never made any improvements to it. It still has the 500 word article and crappy tags. I'm actually in the process of building a site with the same keyword but utilizing our new techniques. My guess is that this new site will outrank the outdated one.

It does seem to be a lot of work for $4 per site. I like to keep my minimum "goal" per site to $20 a day. I just find it difficult managing that many sites.

But if he can manage this many sites and make $240 a day good for him!

I believe the average of Adsenseflippers is about $8/month PER SITE, and they build similiar type of sites so they are quiet optimistic to gain $160 extra per day in less then 2 months.

It's possible in 2 months though, if they build 120 sites and each site makes $1.50/day then there you are. But I think you need some damn good kw research and a very effective ranking strategy to accomplish that.

Good luck guys, hope you make it!

Depending on how much we're earning at that spot we may or may not invest the time/money to make the push to get to the number one spot. We also decide this based on how powerful the current rank holders are. Some sites that we build, we only aim for #3 or 4 - knowing that the search volume of that particular keyword will be enough to make it profitable. We typically get our desired rank within about 2 weeks. At that point the site is already earning.

Heh, actually you're kinda right. We may need to make closer to 100 sites to make this happen - I miss-calculated a little With the systems that I have set though, 100 sites shouldn't be a problem. I will say that we have some monster sites that earn quite a bit, especially for being a micro-niche. This pushes our average up quite a bit. The cool thing is this niche is particularly open... so I know the weight of those sites will drive us up towards our goal.

I don't use micro niche finder, but I know that I ALWAYS use "exact match" when doing keyword research. Phrase and Broad match fools you into thinking a keyword is getting much higher searches. Even though you may get some search traffic from people searching phrase/broad matches of your keyword, you can't rely on this. To calculate the amount of traffic you'll receive, always base it on exact match. Besides, it's better to underestimate traffic and be happy with getting more site visitors than to overestimate your traffic and have your site under-perform.

I have my business partner, Trevor, and I have 2 VA's and 10 Article Writers. We could probably comfortably hit 200 sites in a month if I went full speed on keyword research, but we have other priorities that we also keep up with. Most of my time is actually spent reading and researching.

are these blog comments or contextual links? And do the links reside on the page that has the actual Page Rank?

I wouldn't waste any more time on that site. Some sites just get stuck and don't rank or get any traffic. We have some of those ourselves. I would make 5 more sites using different keywords that meet the criteria I mentioned on the initial post and try it out again.

We do all the keyword research ourselves at the moment. We're thinking about outsourcing this to VA's soon though.

They build contextual links that stick on pages that hold page rank...eventually this slips off though.

Thats a very good goal. I hope you acheive it very soon. With the Panda updates and penguin updates, its a real pain to rank sites now a days. But your plan seems good to rank the site you want to work with.

Best of luck and do keep us updated.

Do your MNS do the Google Dance at all? I find it pretty easy to rank within 2-3 weeks as well, but once it hits 5-6 weeks my sites seem to dance a little bit and will drop from SERP for about 1-2 weeks, before they bounce back.

      Any input??

I have seen this happen to a couple of sites - they bounced off and then jumped back up just as you said. But for the most part the sites don't seem to bounce at all.

It's a little too early to have any significant updates, but we are starting to create a few sites a day. The adsense is already starting to go up, but it will probably be at least a week before the significant improvements show.

    Hi Mosa,

I have been following your blog and I really like what you and your partner are doing. So much so that it has inspired me to start making one website a day. I have given myself $3k to build 60 sites over the course of the next 2-3 months.

I will be following similar techniques to you, as you have proven it to work up to this point. Great thread, wish you well.

these are micro niche websites with 3-5 articles of content, all of which will be outsourced. we will easily be able to build 1 site a day (20+ a month).

These types of websites have been getting dumped out of Google for months.

I don't think you'll earn your $3,000 back any time soon. Why not build 5 or so of these and see what really happens rather than plunging all your time and effort into a plan that has been tried many times before by many people.

Micro Niche Sites have also been the cause of people losing their Adsense accounts, so keep that in mind. If you use Adsense, they all share the same Publisher ID and can be wacked at once.

I have been following many blogs over the past couple of months to see if this really does work. this is one thread that has been a success, adsense flippers still seem to be operating well, UKCarl is being successful, Paul Jensen just to name a few.

I hear you with what you are saying about plunging right in, but building 5 of these sites is not going to prove anything, because the truth is some of these site will not work and I will just discard them. But the ones that do work I plan to expand out.

    Hi,
    Great post.
I`ve had some experience with large networks of small niche sites and wanted to share few guidelines (some might be very obvious).

    1. No cross site linking - no link wheels no nothing...
    2. Multiple user names for domain registration - Google says it dose not look at domain records, but it dose.
    3. Multiple hosters - diversify you IPs
    4. Social links earn you Trust. You will need them, especially after Penguin.
    5. Long articles (800+) are better.
    6. Feel free to add more advice here..

    Now a question:
What domain names/types are you using? (.com, .org, local country domains. something else...)

Also, when calculating revenues do you take into account all expenses (hosting, domains, SEO tools)?

Lastly, when hosting concerned do you prefer free or paid?

So far out of the 40-50 sites we've built, three of them went down in the rankings...but one of them has also bounced back up.

If adsense bans us, then that will be unfortunate, but the sites are ranking and traffic is traffic...so the sites will still earn some money with other ad networks. Also we can sell the sites which should easily net us some good return.

From taking action, we've even learned a lot of new things along the way such as building our own article writing system and our own SEO team. We already have some authority sites in the making and we have potential offline clients asking us for SEO work.

I believe every business has it's risks - I was just willing to take those risks and so far we're coming out in the positive. To be honest though, I do look at micro niches as a stepping stone to much bigger projects and future 6 figure incomes - But everyone needs their stepping stones

If some other small EMD site makes it in the top of Google it shows that ranking in that niche must not be that hard - Especially if you examine that site and it has weak optimization and/or backlinks.

And we're not doing anything bad so adsense should not ban us - but we do our best to stay on the cautious side.

@Mosa - I have been looking at a certain keyword with 5000 local searches and around 9 cpc.

The top ranking site is an emd PR0 with no backlinks.

The other sites are - with 30-150 backlinks

    2. - PR1
    3. - PR4
    4. - PR5
    5. - PR1

Do you think I could rank this with another emd, could only get a .biz or .ws?

It's very possible that you've found a good niche in which you can rank well. Are the 2nd through 5th sites optimized for the keyword? They probably aren't... and if that's the case then that's an even better sign.

Also, instead of a .biz or .ws, you should go for a phrase match domain such as "keywordhq.com", "keywordpro.com", or "bestkeyword.com". Using a .net or .org PMD is good too.

      Hope that helps!

Definitely. I actually think that the SEO world is still completely full of sunshine though. You just have to learn how to adapt. And once you have a little bit of momentum, adapting is actually quite easy.

I agree in my experience .coms get indexed much faster I bought a .info then bought a .com for the same domain the .info now redirects to my .com

P.S great thread I have been reading a lot and taking a lot of SEO action and while this thread would have been confusing a few weeks back it's easy to follow and very clear to me now, keep it up and it's not going to be all glitz and glamour getting your $240 goal there will be some bumps as I am sure you know, you're the type of guy who doesn't give up and I like it!

Yes, I track many of the sites with Google Analytics.

For the most part, the latest algorithm did not seem to affect my sites negatively. Some of our sites are still improving, though it's hard to tell if it's because of our backlinks or because of penguin favoring it more.

The way we build sites, we only put one 1000 word article on it and backlink it - if it ranks and earns with that one article, then we add content... if not, then we throw it into our archives. We've been able to rank over 80% of our keywords - so I can without a doubt say that a 1 page website can rank. But like I said, after it's ranked we build content to secure the longetivity of the rank. By doing all of this, it allows us to keep a low start up cost.

That's smart. Typically I have sites that are minimum three articles. I used to have 500 words, now I push for 800-1,000 per article. But it's smart to start with one, and see if it's worth it before you spend the other $ on more articles.

    Hi Mosa,

I was also inspired by your post. I built 2 niche websites but they got sandboxed. Both sites had 3-4 articles and a total content of around 1500 words per site. For both sites I did 200 social bookmarks but I think they were found suspicious by Google and now they rank nowhere at Google. I am curious to know how your newly built nice websites escape being sandboxed. Do you delay building links after launching the site? If you don't mind posting something like 4 week marketing plan of one of your successful sites would be very useful. Thanks in advance for the help.

Mosa, thanks for this thread, very interesting information and I will continue to follow it closely.

Do you have any links for Magic Submitter tutorials? I've been considering purchasing it because my current backlinking strats are incredibly laborious and not very effective. However, I'd like to get as much out of the trial period as possible, so I'd kind of like to learn the ropes before purchase.

Also, is the trial limited in functionality?

I've currently been working on a niche site that I was planning on adding articles to and trying to build a mini authority site. However, I'm having trouble ranking at #1, currently at #4 and not getting any near the traffic that I'd hoped.

I also have a question about CPC. Up until now, I've been focusing mainly on competition and traffic, and many of the niches I've considered targeting are attractive in these areas, but have a very low CPC.

For example, my next planned site is targeting a niche with 30k exact monthly searches. I'm confident I can get top 3 and have a good shot at reaching #1, but the AWCPC is well under $1. Is there a problem with very low CPC niches if the traffic is high enough?

Finally, when you recommend taking a partial match .com .org or .net over an exact match .info or .biz, is that based on your intuition or your experience? I've read that all TLDs that arent' country specific should rank equally well for EMD. Is this wrong, or do you have other considerations?

Thanks for your thread, looking forward to your response with keen interest.
