Google Ranking Difficulty

Hello everyone,

I just have a quick question. I've been blogging daily using an authority blog and have been ranking really quick and easily targeting low and medium competition keywords. I was hitting page 1 in minutes and getting a good amount of quality traffic and leads. However, ever since the Google Penguin update, I can't rank at all. I can't even see my post even on the later pages.

I do the basic off page optimization and as for backlinks, pretty much relying on social media for it.

Any tip on how to rank within page 1 again?

Thanks!

  • What kind of link building are you doing?
  • Have you noticed if your entire blog authority has been hit? It's possible that you were ranking many keywords because your blog carried authority. If the PR or the power of the root tanked then anything you try to rank will probably be harder as well.
  • I'm with Empower Network and the blog currently has a PR3 and within the top 1000 websites. I used to rank very well and fast by having a 2% keyword density. I target usually 1-2 keywords/post. As for link building, before the update, simple social media syndication gets me on page 1 within minutes. Now, I can't even see myself even on page 10.
  • I'm finding it very difficult to rank well without strong backlinks. I would work on that.
  • Penguin as we all know is mainly targeted at over optimization.

Did you stuff your site/content with too many keywords?

Google’s requirements say that no more than 2% of a web page’s words should be the keyword. Any more than that will be considered spam. However, Yahoo and MSN allow as high as 5% keyword density for SEO. Therefore, hitting a sweet spot of between 2% and 5% keyword density is probably your best bet.
  • When I optimize a post, I don't usually overdo it. As for keyword density, I don't usually go over 2%. So basically its the backlinks that I have to focus on?
  • I have never once worried about keyword density, nor have I ever found anything from Google that says you cannot go over 2%. Write what needs to be there. If that goes over 2%, so be it.

    • This.

Also, I find it hard to believe the OP was hitting page 1 in minutes, unless you were leveraging an authority site & the keywords have essentially no competition. Even then it's going to take Google more than a few minutes to index and rank your content.
