Quick Question! Keyword Density?

So I have a blog type site with many posts, I just want to get this straight... a 1-3% keyword density (which is what is reccomended if I'm not mistaken) means that in a 1,000 word post, the keyword should appear in the post 10 times right? between quotes "" if its a long tail? or without quotes? do I do this with every post?

thanks!

  • Use a 1% density. And don't put it in quotes. Do this with posts that you want to rank. Make sure you have the keyword in your meta tags and description as well.

    • Thanks man! great stuff! ...is there a problem with doing this with my whole website (other posts and pages aswell) if its targeting one specific keyword to rank for?

    • Write your article or post naturally, don't bother about keyword density. You can use your keyword but in most genuine way.
  • Don't have a targeted KW density because when you have to reach that certain % you find yourself making sure you get it in even if the sentence doesn't make sense.

Or you rewrite it making it well..... Not as good as it once was just so you can stuff that nice little keyword in there!

Don't worry about density just worry about meta tags the rest comes naturally

    • ok, thanks, besides this, what would you say is the best way to increase my rankings? I'm not quite sure how/where to create backlinks, I've only done it on yahoo answers... It's been a month and I'm nowhere to be found on a 800 exact month searches keyword! help!

  • I honestly don't think K/W density matters anymore. I've ranked many sites without bothering too much about it.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Keyword density nowadays has no impact on contents not unless you spam your article with a bunch of keywords.

Just write articles for real users. You can include your keywords there. But forget about density. Just provide what users want and you'll be on the right track.

    • I have to disagree heavily with the keyword density. I feel more towards 5%-6% is right. I read alot of people's comment's about low keyword density but from exp it never works too well unless you have paid marketing for your blog. Its tough to have that type of density, but for me it makes my blogs and my clients blogs have a better chance of getting customers to click on ADs because the Adsense ADs are really based on your keywords. It's up to you ,but I would heavily suggest going agianst the grain on this one.

  • Don't even think about keyword density.

I used to ensure I had between 1% 4% kw density but now I make a point of not even checking.

The algorithms are so advanced now that you should only be writing high quality unique content which goes into depth in your subject matter.

Do this well and you will easily outrank anyone who has optimized their kw density

    • I have been reading this website for a while and 2 common posts come up

      1) Organic backlinks are the best

      2) Quality articules is what ranks you high

Ok the more backlinks pointing to your blog or site, the higher it will rank. I would never advice using paid services, but if you dont have time then you have to. Quality posts arent going to get you ranked, inventive ways of keeping keyword density high and quality posts will get you ranked high and fast. I see the same answers to questions over and over, its like people here purposely giving bad advice and Iam seeing it often.

  • don't bother with kw density any more. u should focus on good content and good back links. that's what really matters in the end.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I second the 1% density. Anything from 2-3% is sure to have a wild Penguin visit your site.

  • As many have already said briefly on here, keyword density doesn't matter any more. I have been writing content for my own websites and a number of client websites for a few years now and I never worry about keyword density.

You should ALWAYS put the human visitor before the search engines. This means you need to ensure that your content is readable to humans rather than having an exact percentage keyword density or anything like that.

If you're writing good content, you should notice your keyword density naturally be anywhere between 1% and 5% without even trying. Diversity is the key to success. Worry less about keyword density and more about writing a piece of content that readers will love and will attract social shares, links etc.

    Hope that helps.

    • Again I have to say keyword density should be higher, dont listen to all these people saying quality alone will get you ranked. Its common sense the internet as a whole is run by bots not people. Google doesnt have people look threw every post and determine quality. Google has bots that search and index according to whats related to what people search for. Therefore if keyword density is at a good level, your site has more chance to get index higher and faster.

Of course you need quality , that goes without saying.Everyone here keeps giving the same 2 pieces of advice that never works.

1)Focus on quality and you rank higher
      2) Backlinking should be made organically.

Trust me I been on this site couple of days and all I see is these 2 pieces of advice that if you follow, you wont make money. People arent going to tell you what really works, cause then you will know the secret too.

Each time I see a keyword density/stuffing forum thread pop up, I grit my teeth. At this rate I'll need dentures in another year.

    • Yukon I've been reading your silo threads and I'm digging them but it did seem to go against, or at the least not really take into account the whole keyword density thing. do you also agree that you should just basically ignore keyword density?
  • Just the right thread Im looking for..
    Thanks for the info guys..
  • Having a 1% keyword density is playing safe but I would rather play safe today. It's quite hard to recover from penalties that the big G gives if you keyword stuff or overoptimize.
