Will google penalize our site?

We hired a seo company from eastern europe. They provided 550 backlinks for 25 keywords in 1 month. As a result, we saw a big jump in the rankings. Now our website ranks in top 3 for most of our keywords. we didn't rank in top 60 before this campaign. We even got new inquiries from these keywords for the first time this week. So everything seems good so far.

However, i am afraid that google will penalize us because we got a huge amount of backlinks in a short time. Secondly, most of the backlinks are irrelevant to our business.

Do you think if we should stop working with them to avoid getting banned by google ?

If they are using any link farm or blog post , So its may , But if they are creating natural link than no need to worry,

they are not from link farms. I checked most of them. Their links include less than 10 external links

When you say the backlinks are not relevant do you mean things like they posted an article about fishing and put a link in it to your site about home security? Irrelevant like that or just blog comments on posts that are not relevant to your niche?
For example, they posted our link into an article about Ingredients of Beer, but we are an electronics company.

That could be a problem. That is something that Google said the Penguin update is targeting.

In my opinion you should not worry about the number of backlinks.... I build 1000 every day on irrelevant sites and no problem.

What can bring you some problem is the consistency of the job. Let me explain that...

If you get a big number of backlinks for a short period... and that exceed the number of backlinks periodically build before and after this sure can look unnatural. Although 550 backlinks/25kw = 22 backlinks per kw and this is not so much even better looks like link diversity so maybe is may not look so bad(unnatural).

So I will suggest to wait for a while and if you see any down moving then remake the blast and make it something permanently. Sustainable make things look natural, even more after deranging.

I agree with Mike. You're killing yourself using backlinking services if you want to rank high with Google. How many times do they have to tell us to stop using these services. Naturally anyone here on the forum who advises otherwise is probably selling backlinks.
