Had a good day today with adsense, question about amazon on site

Just wanted to give progress with my adsense sites. I have a total of 5 adsense sites now and yesterday I finally broke the $100 barrier for the day, then today I followed up with making $200 for the day with adsense. Looks like if this keeps up Im going to have to upgrade to at least a vps, right now using shared hosting with godaddy. Total visits today across all 5 sites, a little over 5000 unique visitors. Just need to continue building out sites and building back links.

Quick question, would you recommend to direct some of that traffic on my adsense sites with links to amazon product pages related to the sites to see if I can also get some sells from being an amazon affiliate? Since the idea would be getting traffic to amazon and let them sell the product or at least having the cookie where they might buy something else?

Absolutely. It's always great to diversify. Build a list while you're at it too. Congrats on the success you're experiencing!

If a certain Adsense page is not performing well, it might make sense to promote affiliate products.

In most cases, a website is just easier to monetize with Adsense than affiliate products. You might consider a PPL strategy, where you find an affiliate who pays you for each lead you get him.

If you get to single page a couple hundred uniques a month, that alone might be enough to make $200 - $500 in affiliate commissions.

    Test, tweak and adjust!

If you are earning money with adsense does not necessarily mean that you will earn the same( or more ) with amazon. Some traffic is great for adsene, but sucks for Amazon. That depends on the type of the site, and type of the traffic.
The best way for you to know for sure which monetizing method is better for your sites is to test. Put amazon ads for a few days and compare the results.

Thanks for the info everyone! Im pretty pumped about adsense, Im still seeing success. After 4 days Im averaging over $100 per day on adsense. I actually had to order a vps today because my sites became very slow on shared hosting. So I think Im getting the hang of this.

But I still want to get into amazon affiliate program so I can diversify my earnings.

    sillysoft,

What strategy are you currently using with your adsense sites? Are they micro niche or authority sites?

    Thanks

      Thanks
Micro niche. Its very simple process for me. I dont use any paid software, I just use googles keyword tool. I find the low hanging fruit and "bottom feed". Specifically I find a generic term, usually 3 words, that has low competition and no more than 5000 searches a month. But the key for me is that generic term must have at least 100 different variations. So just for example purposes lets say there is a keyword term "I love cars", then there is "I love red cars", "I love blue cars in summer" etc. Once I see a keyword term that matches this I then go to Google and search a few of these keywords and see what shows up. If there are a bunch of micro niche sites showing up then I dont go for it, but if there is a bunch of sites on the first page from places like ask.com or yahoo answers then I will jump all over it. This part is something you have to learn as you go along, to me its a gut feeling/decision based on experience.

See I dont make my money with people going to my main site, I make all the money in the long tail keyword matches. So if I registered a domain ilovecars.com, then I use on page seo via content and url to make sure I will match for long tail keywords. So in this case I will have a page dedicated to i love blue cars in summer with the keywords in the url.

As I go over this process again and again I find better ways to do this, plus as a developer I create database driven sites so all I do is copy one site to another, switch a few settings and Im done. Im doing all of this with 7 sites as of right now, just launched my 7th 2 days ago and already I almost had 200 unique visitors yesterday.

There is more to this process but this is the gist of it, nothing I have said here is ground breaking, or new. Hope this helps anyone out.

I'm very interested in your strategy. Apparently, micro niche can be very powerful. This is often a conversation after a few Google to update. Is micro niche still have a place in search engines, especially Google?

I think micro niche sites have a place still with Google. But it just cant be spammy, it needs to be relevant to your users. There is no way someone would mistake my sites for anything else and click a link without knowing what they would be clicking. Meaning noway someone who likes sewing would accidentally run across my sites. My traffic is very targeted to the subject at hand.

I do not use any services for back links. I make all back links manually by hand. I find news articles related to my niche and every night I actually read the article and put a legit comment with a link back to my site. Eventually the back links start working for you as more and more people pass your link around the net either socially, bookmarks or just simple back links from different websites. One site it only took me 3 months to average over 2k uniques a day with a PR3. Remember, the new google updates will penalize you for unnatural/spammy back links. Doing it yourself is the only way IMO.

This is very time consuming but well worth it to me in the long run, to give you an example yesterday I made over $200 in one day with adsense only.

I'm sure no one will believe me, but I figured out types of sites that require hardly any maintenance. In fact I average maybe 1 hour per site per month. Being a developer helps automate a lot of things as well. The main work actually is done building back links. This all started several months ago when I had it working for the man and wanted to make my own money. I had one side site that I threw up a couple of years ago that was getting decent traffic. So wanting to make money I learned about adsense, read up on how to optimize it and implemented what I learned. A few months later I landed my biggest adsense check, $1600, and I ended up selling this site for over 10k on flippa.

After I sold it I decided to continued researching adsense and optimizing it and decided to launch more sites. Fast forward to today, its now going on 5 months since I started my first site for my second round of sites, I made almost 2k last month and so far this month Im averaging over $100 per day on adsense, with yesterday being my best with over $200 for the day. My goal is to continue perfecting this and make as many sites as possible, if this keeps up I could quit my day job and do this full time.

Yes picking the right keywords is tough. I actually stumbled across a niche that has been very easy to rank for and all of my sites are in this niche. I wont leave this niche because I continue to find more and more sites in this niche.

Like I said, I look at who is found for the keywords on the front page. If its a bunch of big time players like amazon, yellow pages or other micro niche sites etc I tend to stay away. But if its full of just general sites like ask.com or about.com or yahoo answers then I will move forward. Sometimes I will take on keywords that has other niche sites in search results, but only if I feel I can out rank them with my SEO techniques. But again this is gained from experience and gut instinct.

Nope, I will post links even if they arent linked at all, just text. Because I have found that though search engines might not pick it up, humans will copy the url and paste into the browser. Then once the user is there you have a chance for them to click an ad and or forward the site to another person or book mark the page. So I dont care if its a no follow or just plain text, I will post it either way.

I write ZERO content. I pay nothing for content as I dont need content outside of what is already on the site. Like I said these are truly passive income sites. I hardly have to do anything with them once they are launched. The main amount of time I spend is creating manual back links to these sites.

These are sites that provide information that people are looking for. No need to add articles or update content as the information does not need to be updated.

Congrats man. I follow a very similar strategy of building a handful of authority sites that are easy to manage and should give me a some consistent passive income. If you have a site doing over 1000 uniques a day, i suggest looking to either direct ad sales or marketplaces like buysellads.com and buyads.com

Personally i am not a big fan of affiliate marketing. i just think it is not a business model but more of a reseller opportunity. You only get paid a commission after a sale is made and that takes some work - inserting affiliate links, widgets, tracking and what not. Essentially you are a nothing more than a salesman or salesforce for a business. On the other hand, when you sell direct ads, you are following the proven media/publisher business model. You just sell traffic and leave the conversion part to the advertiser. This is the exact model followed by the most successful online businesses including yahoo/aol and all other portals, google and all other search engines, facebook and all other social networks and off course offline electronic and print media.

so my vote is for selling more adspace and dishing out amazon.

Your absolutely right and this is what concerns me which prompted my initial question. Should I use the traffic Im getting from my adsense sites to also promote products via amazon affiliate to diversify my earnings? Or should I just start fresh with a different method/site to make money with something like amazon?

Your websites are doing fine, if you currently have 5 Adsense and then 5 amazon and you was to loose your Adsense account then you would have 5 websites with no revenue, i diversity it on the same sites creating amazon products within the content as if i am talking about that specific product. Use a URL in the picture to the amazon product affiliate link and also Adsense ads in the sidebars and widgets.

Also if you need hosting drop me a PM, might be able to give you a nice price.

Well if you are only trying to link for search engines then I guess it would be pointless. I don't add links just for search engines, I also add for humans to visit my site. Search engines don't click ads.

This really is a great read. I was wondering if there is any specific theme you use for all of the WP sites?

Quick Edit: Also I was wondering do you send your backlinks straight back to the homepage only or do you link to the pages with the longtail keywords in the URL?

    Cheers

Ah I see! I am a Web Designer by trade so the custom route maybe the way to go with this. I am sure the back end dev knowledge you have comes in extremely handy as I think I would need a CMS to get things going.

I edited my last post and actually edited a question so you may have missed it:

I just send them back to the main page of my site, though sometimes if the article is very specific to a sub page of mine then I might put a link directly to the sub page. But 99.9% of the time I just add a link back to the home page of my sites.

I never said there wasn't any content. I said I didn't have to create ongoing articles. The content is a one time thing consisting of information people look for everyday online. I just optimize it where its easy to find via search engines.
