Hello

I have an question regarding Google duplicate content penalty slap. Okay, websiteA.com is my main site and I got a second domain websiteB.com. I have re-direct websiteB.com from www to no-www to prevent duplicate content. People can access websiteB by entering websiteA.com/websiteB too. Do you think Google or the search engines will penalize me for this? If yes, how can I solve this issue.

Your opinions are most appreciated

Many thanks!
Felix

From what i understand that the redirection is understood by googles algorithms that it is not duplicate content. And I am sure google realizes that what you mentioned can happen and it wont be penalized because you have the redirection

Hey Felix, I'm want to take a stab at this for you. In order to know if you are having an duplicate content issue there is a few things I need to know. Are websiteA and websiteB identical sites or are they two unique sites?

And when you say you can get to websiteB from websiteA by going to websiteA.com/websiteb how are you handeling that? What are you using for a redirect?

If you can clarify that I should be able to give you a solid answer.

Addon Domains - Solving duplicate content issue using .htaccess shows you what to add to your htaccess file to solve this problem.

Have not implemented it myself yet but if that does not work search a long the lines of add on domains causing duplicate content and you will find more information

    Thanks for the replies.

No Barry, Website A and Website B are two unique site. Website A is my main site, which I can use it to access my cpanel through this url by adding "/cpanel" to it. I have re-directed website B from www to no-www with the htacess file. All my website is located in public_html which I believe most websites are. Website A is located in the "public_html" and the rest of my add-on domain were located in this folder, thus I can access website B through website A.

I almost screwed up when I moved the add-on domain to other folder - but everything is okay now. So, I'm wondering if is this going to cause me a penalty or not?

    Cheers!

So long as you do not have the same content on your pages then you will be fine. Use copyscape.com to see if you are using duplicate content or even if other sites on the web are copying your content.
