Ok I posted previously that I was making over $100 a day with adsense, I still am but something different is happening. It started yesterday evening, originally my CTR was below 5% but my CPC was over $1. Fast forward to yesterday and today my CTR is almost at 10% but my CPC is under .50 cents and the number of clicks have gone up. Anyone know what would cause this?

I looked at my ads and there is one ad that has almost 100 clicks for the day and the CPC is extremely low. Wonder if some new advertiser is stinking up the place.

Shouldn't you change your signature if you are in fact making over $100 a day ?

I'm sorry man, way too many variables. Best is to give it a bit of time to see whether it was a fluke or not.

Even if it was a fluke there's really not much you can do about it. You can block advertisers, but that will probably harm you in the long run unless they are abusing the system to get very cheap clicks.

CPC changes so often, so it might just have been one advertise who is no longer advertising with adwords, which means your ad spots are now filled by other firms that didn't bid as much on they keywords.

I'm assuming this is the same site, right

Yes same site. I just want to be cautious and make sure Im not being clicked bombed or anything. The number of clicks have gone up, but the CPC has gone down. For example before today the highest clicks I gotten for the whole day was 200, today Im over 250 clicks. But Im still making the same because the CPC is down and the traffic numbers are the same as any other day. Im hoping its just a crappy ads right now, cant afford my account to be banned

It is a significant increase, but again not enough to worry about I would say. It's probably just a shift in advertisers which caused a more popular ad (but less profitable) one to show up!

I do notice a new ad showing up. I never seen an ad like this before, its a text ad 300x250. The first 2 ads listed look normal, but the last ad looks like a link unit rather than an ad. Normally the title of the ad is bold and then text underneath it with a description right? Well this last part of the ad shows just 3 plain looking links on top of each other. So the whole ad looks like this:

              Ad 1 title here
              Description of ad1 here

              Ad 2 title here
              Description of ad2 here

              Short title ad 1
              Short title ad 2
              Short title ad 3

Maybe more long tail keywords coming into your site. What does your data say about that?

I checked my top keywords and Im not seeing anything jumping out today compared to the previous 2 weeks, everything looks normal. Traffic is the same, traffic from keywords look the same. The only difference I made was that I added 5 additional pages of content yesterday, but traffic to those pages arent anything big.

Right that would explain the change in your performance. Do you make more or less now? I mean 50 more clicks should even out a small drop in CPC

Well I am still on course for my daily earnings, maybe a little less. Right now I'm at $120 for the day and over 350 clicks at the moment.

Ok I think I know why my clicks have gone way up, it was obvious actually. About a day or 2 after I upgraded my hosting from godaddy shared hosting to a highend vps on liquidweb my clicks increased at the same time my page load decreased. When I was on shared hosting I was getting at most 150 clicks for the day, sometimes it peaked to almost 200. Now after switching to a vps my clicks are over 600 a day and it keeps going. So Im thinking it has to be due to the server change, my pages went from almost 10 second load time on shared hosting to under 2 seconds on the vps.

If I were a betting person, I'd blame this:

About smart pricing - AdSense Help

      Here's the key sentence:

"If a click is determined to be less likely to lead to a business result like a purchase or a newsletter sign-up, an advertiser’s maximum bid may be reduced."

In simple speak, Google is now adjusting our AdSense money based on THEIR advertiser's inability to create a half-decent landing page. That is, if their optin form or salespage isn't performing well, it's somehow our fault.

In other words, we can deliver the best visitors on the planet... prospects ready to take action and buy something (with credit card in hand)... but if Google's advertisers don't have a clue on how to convert this amazing traffic, we're somehow to blame. And as a result, Google's "Smart Pricing" (penalty) slashes our earnings.

Even worse, we're willingly forcing our visitors to leave our site in exchange for mere pennies per click.

Bottom line: last week I removed all AdSense ads from my site.

Instead, I'm creating my own private ad offering... check out this article about it:
