This is the message I received after experiencing an extreme drop in traffic (penalty):

Dear site owner or webmaster of http://www. .com/,
We've detected that some of your site's pages may be using techniques that are outside Google's Webmaster Guidelines.
Specifically, we detected low-quality pages on your site which do not provide substantially unique content or added value. Examples could include thin affiliate pages, doorway pages, automatically generated content, or copied content. For more information about unique and compelling content, visit Little or no original content - Webmaster Tools Help.
We encourage you to make changes to your site so that it meets our quality guidelines. Once you've made these changes, please submit your site for reconsideration in Google's search results.
If you have any questions about how to resolve this issue, please see our Webmaster Help Forum for support.
Sincerely,
Google Search Quality Team

I know Google refers to a recently launched wordpress blog that had lot's of bad quality content on it. I deleted the entire blog with all content yesterday. What remains now is only the original hand written content from myself.

My question: will Google algorithm see this change and remove the penalty or do I really have to do a manual reconsideration request?

You might have deleted the content, but Google already found the copied (whatever) content & that same site is still listed in GWT.

Copy the code that GWT has you paste into your site, save that to a text file, then delete the blog profile inside GWT. Clear your browser history & run CCleaner (free), then login to GWT & submit he site again, compare the new GWT verification code to the old code that you saved in the text file. If the codes don't match, then paste the new verification code into the website & double check GWT, that everything is working correctly.

Might not work, but you won't know until you test it.

BTW, stop posting scraped (whatever) content on your site.

I have no idea what you are talking about. But if there's no guarantee why would I do it anyway?

BTW the content was quite unique but I posted to much and it was low quality. But EVERYTHING is removed now.

So don't test anything & let Google put your pages on page 560 in Google SERPs.

If your not willing to do your own testing, then SEO isn't a good traffic option for your site.

You can't post too much content on your site, that's literally impossible.

If the content wasn't scraped/copied from another site, what could you possibly be posting that is low quality?

I rank low content pages all day, everyday & have been for a few years. My pages are useful & relevant, but my traffic doesn't need a lot of text to understand what they are getting (legal downloadable files).

Define low quality, as far as SEO goes. Was the content not relevant to the site/niche?

It was low quality for the average reader. I don't know how Google sees it, but I'm sure it was an usual amount of content. I posted dozens of posts in just 3 or 4 days then came the drop. But everything is gone now, the entire blog. I had top rankings for many keywords before I began the wordpress blog.

It was "algorithmic action". Your site should come back over time. How long? God knows.

I wouldn't send in any reconsideration requests, unless you've been de-indexed. Wait a few weeks and see what happens.

      Exactly!

It's a freakin setup & has been since they first started sending out those automated messages in GWT.
