Google Isn't Using My Meta Descriptions

I go to a lot of trouble to write engaging meta descriptions that give a good idea of the content of my posts, with keywords, and the correct length limit, and I use the All in One SEO pack to do it.

Then 9 times out of 10 Google ignores them and either puts the first 2 sentences from my text, or worse, picks a few phrases from the text that give very little idea of the contents of the article, and would certainly not encourage anyone to click on the SERP result.

What can I do?

  • I don't like all in one seo to much but prefer platinum seo. Google say they will not use meta data if alot of them are very similar but it's something your really can't control.

    Surely when they are bolding the keywords in the page content they bear some relevance to the search query? Have you tried with other keywords?

    If you're really bothered about serp click through then why not try microdata? this is extra info you can provide about your post such as a picture and post rating. There are a few plugins on this forum that will set this up automaticaly. It does improve your ctr.

  • Google will choose an extract from your article body if it determines that your meta description isn't "relevant".

    My suggestion is to try rewriting your meta description.
  • You can also make sure that your Meta Description is not only relevant but also stay away from keyword stuffing in description tag.

    Meta description is still very important for search engines however Big G have ignored meta keywords tags these days as read here and there in forums.
