In Italy, the .it will get more love, maybe.
But getting more love does not mean high
ranking.

The question cannot be answered.

We know nothing about the sites that are doing
well now, nothing about you, nothing about the
niche, nothing about your history, the other
competing site's history, their authority,....
absolutely nothing.

I always wonder why people ask this question.

It's not that simple. But it does give clues as to
why people fail, then come here and complain that
they are failing.

They think there's some laundry list that gets you
a high ranking. There isn't.

Hi Daren,

I think you are not aware about the new updates of Google Panda. According to this update the 2012 is marked as a year of local search in SERP. It is surely possible that a site with local domain ranks higher than a .com.

Yes it makes a big difference especially when you have the geo domain extension and your server is based in the same country. .ca domains are quite hot as there is alot of traffic not much competition but it's hard to get the domains as they are only avalible to Canadian residents.

If you get a .ca domain, a ca server and a high traffic exact match domain then you will rank very high without any linking.

I think that local TLD's rank better in their corresponding search engines.

So you may get more .co.za results in the South African Google as the content could potentially be more relevant. Especially true I think for local brick and mortar businesses for obvious reasons.

I know in the UK .com dominated .co.uk up until this Panda/Penguin.

Ever since the Panda/Penguin, I've noticed an improvement in the .co.uk results appearing on g.co.uk

They must have finally fixed that issue, but I can't speak for other country tlds.

So basically because I am from South Africa, I will be able to start targeting a lot of niches that ends on .co.za and hopefulle get better ranking. I haven't really read about the whole panda en penguin updates, only heard about them. I will definitely do some research on that.

Is it really that hard for a outsider of a country to get the local TLD's (Not sure what it means, please explain Mogulmedia)? Maybe it is time for warriors to start working together to help each other in different countries?

Until then, I think I must start grabbing the Local TLD's opportunity while I can in this untouched market!

According to me, .it would be better if you would like to rank in italy.

If your targeted audience are mainly from Italy then I suggest .it then .com....But true to say it matters on campaign and strategy to bring audience and get ranks. You should keep good eye on there.

.it will obvious rank better in Italy opposed to a .com domain

However when you change your geographic location in Google webmasters then I don't think it will make much of a difference anymore.
