Amazon Affiliates ...how are you ranking your sites?

I made 2-3 sites which are 1-2 months old and it is really hard for me to rank on the first page of google.

How are you ranking your amazon sites?

If I pick a product name from amazon - all the time that prodcut is available on some other websites like sears, macys, amazon and other stores (which are authority sites for sure). How do you outrank them?

I am doing product + review in the title and slug. One of my websites has 50+ reviews including the general informative reviews. It has a plugin which help in internal linking (related posts). I am using a premium theme from elegant themes.

I am using two call to action text links and one image link to amazon.

I did not do any backlinking except from my wordpress blog because of penguin.

I haven't made even one sale. It could be because the traffic is not much.

Is it too early to give up and try something else? I feel its too early so I will keep going but I want to know the opinion of the experts of amazon affiliates. How can you beat these big stores websites in rankings if they are selling the same product that you are reviewing.

If you can suggest a WSO I will buy that too (if there is a gurantee if I will make atleast 1$ in a month). I am just looking for that first dollar that will give me more motivation!

Please help. Thanks a lot.

  • First, congrats on taking some action. You've already taken the biggest step. Now comes the second hardest part, sticking with it. One or two months is far too early to see if a website is going to pull in traffic or not.

Having said that, if you don't build any backlinks how will anyone know you have a site? How you market your site around the Internet is a big part of driving traffic and letting the search engines know what you should rank for.

There are so many factors to consider, the keywords you are targeting, potential traffic, strength of competition...

You can definitely beat the big shopping sites. If the top ten listings are filled with the brand name or manufacturer then you might have trouble and it depends on the strength of the individual pages where the product is located.

There's far too much detail to go into here but there are some good WSO's. Fast Attack Traffic/Fast Attack SEO and Total Adsense Annihilation (just use it for Amazon) spring to mind. I'm sure others will have some good tips but they give a good outline to follow for your marketing campaign. No-one will give you a guarantee. It's up to you to make use of the information, do your own testing and see what works.

    Don't give up just yet!

  • I buy an emd, install Wordpress, write a dozen product reviews, fire up the good'ol SENuke X and spam the hell out of it with some diversified anchor text and we're top 3 within a few days.

    • Could you kindly give or link me to a blueprint via PM? Thanks. I cannot send pm.
  • Site's ranking is depend on its backlinks. So the main way to ranking your amazon sites is by building backlinks for the sites. Quality and quantity of your backlinks will determine your site's ranking.

The more and higher quality backlinks your sites have, the more higher your site's ranking will be.

This is the example of building backlinks.
  • Hi,

You do not need to worry about the penguin update when building backlinks. Just make sure that the anchor text is varied and that you use a variety of methods such as article marketing , blog commenting, high Page rank sites etc.

As soon as you start building these links you will see your sites climb in the serps,

  • I do virtually nothing to rank my Amazon sites. I simply choose low-competition products to promote, write up my reviews, post them to my review sites, and auto-bookmark / auto-ping / auto-tweet each new post.

Most of my reviews are indexed and ranked on page one within 48 hours. It's really not difficult if you choose the right products to promote.

  • If you haven't done any backlinking, I'd start doing it now, just a few natural links to get started, a bit of social bookmarking, a couple of you tube videos, a Squidoo Lens Google won't penalize you for this.

I can't guarantee you $1 a month but I made my first dollar as an Amazon affiliate following Gaz Cooper's advice in his membership site.
  • I wouldn't be so dependent on just ranking first page on Google. Put your self out in several different ways.

Make You-Tube review videos, build up your Social networking relationships. Sign up for Forums and be active on them.

You-Tube TIP: If possible upload 2 videos a day and over time all those views add up into clicks to your site.

Forum TIP: Try and join active Forums that you can use TapTalk with. When you are on the go without your computer its great for posting!

Social Networks TIP: keep building on up and be real! interact as much as possible.

You can do all of this while building a few niche related back-links. If you have great content 100% unique. Write content that you feel people "NEED" to know. Don't just slap a few 500 words together for the sake of having content.
    • [ 2 ] Thanks
  • YouTube works fantastic for that. Many times videos rank great on Google (even without a single backlink).

Tip: You can create "this vs that" reviews. Just google an amazon product + "vs" and you'll get some suggestions while typing the words.

    • Ranking in Google is only one (and relatively minor) method of marketing. For example, none of my Amazon sites have ever ranked in the SERPS, because of the very competitive niches in which I market. All I do to drive traffic to my sales pages is write articles for relevant ezines, blogs/websites, and even offline publications such as magazines and newspapers. Buyers opt-in to my lists for tips, updates, and additional product promotions.
      • [ 2 ] Thanks
  • Theres a great wso that helped me rank in the top3 easily. Its called passive seo wso
  • Yea it's not an Amazon thread until we hear from you and your sig.

    • Lol. Hello pot, I'm kettle.

Did you really just question my signature?
  • Thanks everyone for so much helpful responses:

Here is what I am going to do in the next one month:

Make 10 youtube videos per week (I just figured how to make awesome videos) and point to my website!

Backlink from forums profiles - get active on my product forums - 5 hours per week.

Backlinks from hubpages and squidoo after manual spinning of articles. I am thinking 20 hubpages and 5 squidoo lenses in the next month. I do outsource writing so writing many articles is not a problem.

Offline marketing (suggsted by myob) Will save for later - Although I am pushing my website to be mentioned on radio since my cousin is a RJ

Social Bookmarking (But I think I need to go slow rahter than 25 bookmarks in a day and then nothing for a month) - So natural/manual bookmarking! - It can be outsources too.

I am still very uncomfortable with SENuke X ....it might backfire.

    • Sounds like a plan, try social ADR for bookmarking there are free and paid versions, the paid version is something like $47 for 1,600 bookmarks a month. you can use these to not only bookmark your sites but your squidoo and you tube videos as well.

Also remember to link to your inner pages as well not just your domain.
    • Don't forget to retun to the thread and tell us about your progrss after you do all these steps.

  • Great thread here. I have looked into ranking things on Amazon as well.
  • Try to make your own blog which you can make backlink from them to your amazon site.

  • You will get there...

The main thing is that you pick REALLY popular products and go where people are looking for those products with a site that has some awesome information and is optimized for CTR.

If you get the right product you can get a ton of sales and then tie in updating your site with social media sites, squidoo, twitter, youtube etc...
  • Patience my friend your site is very young what you should focus on is adding more ORIGINAL CONTENT and just continue to review products within your niche and be sure to consistently add really great content.

Also mix up your posts for example you could do comparison posts comparing 2 of the top products within your niche and point out the pros and cons of each, you can also add How To articles which are also very good since people are always looking for how to do something.

FOCUS on making your site the best one out there with original QUALITY CONTENT and you will start to rank organically in time.

If you focus on a way to game Google you will pay for it in the end so why not just give them what they want which is QUALITY SITES WITH QUALITY ORIGINAL CONTENT

One of the easiest ways to rank very quickly is with videos so be sure to add them to your efforts not only for the back links but it is a great way to grab free traffic and is fairly easy to rank products, again the same rule applies FOCUS ON QUALITY

Do that and you will start to see things happening.

    Good luck

    Kickin it on Amazon

    • Hi,

@cooler, yes I have done us search with firefox and us proxie (i come from europe) I see al asquidoo lens in spot# 3 or4, all have PR 0 and the product page itself (the lego product page) has 0 backlinks, it must be easy to outrank these sites, with 800-1000 word of written sniper content and similiar emd domain (not put the brand lego in the domain).

Ok, thanks I happy with that result (it was an example) so I know be on the right way to find products who are easy to rank,it is not so easy to understand how to find niche keywords, next thing is how rank an amazon affiliate store "autoblog" who has little ,very less own written content, how rank such a site. Many big affiliates ranks their amazon autoblog high, how they make it?
I learn more and more each step on step.

  • 50 reviews are not good numbers to bring a sale. You need more views.
    • [2] replies
    • A 50 pages review website is more than enough. This doesn't mean you should stop but you are definetely on the correct path. Make sure the quality is perfect , it has more than 450 words and it passes copyscape.

start building backlinks with diversified anchor text is the next logical step. You can find some very good services all over the internet, but you need to be picky.
    • 50 reviews is plenty. If targeting the right terms/products, ranking for 50 products should be producing sales. That said, I wouldn't stop at 50. Why not go to 100 or even 200?
  • Hi rajak2k2k

I have a few successful amazon sites myself. From my experience there are a couple of things that you need to do with your website:

    1) Submit a press release
2)Build a range of quality back links and varying anchor texts
3)Use social media on the main three platforms i.e. Twitter, Facebook and Google Plus
  • I have one site at 97 reviews. The traffic decreased like crazy. It's due to my competitors. Electronics niche go figure.

I have another site at 67 reviews traffic is increasing and beating the one with the 97 reviews.

And then I have a site with 16 reviews and traffic is the same as the 67 reviews.

That's 3 of my 6 sites that I'm working on.

Sorry if I haven't gotten back to you all. My best friend just recently passed away.
  • I target specific niches, e.g. "lawn mower reviews" and target that for my homepage. I get my writers to draft up reviews of the products which get AT LEAST 50 searches/month. If that's 6, fine, if that's 30, fine.

I only target things such as "lawn mower reviews" which have 5k or above monthly searches. It takes me a maximum of 60-90 days to be sitting at #1. I currently have 26 of these sites and I'm banking huge (20k+ per month).

I don't know why people would waste their time, effort and money on small sites that generate no traffic.
  • Hi GGPaul!

It's been quite a while since I've been on the forums. I'm glad to see you are still seeing success with my strategies! You were the first to see solid success and continue to do so! Good job!
