Another Google Algorithm Change?

With penguin, my site went from #1 for a number of keywords (for many months on end) to the top of page two or the bottom of page 1. I removed any over the top keyword densities, ceased building any kind of un natural backlinks and engaged in social media to engage the site's audience and encourage natural discussion and linking. The site, which has a large email list and provides more information than most of those currently ranking on page 1, slowly worked it's way back up and I think I was in #7 yesterday or the day before when I checked.

Today? Out of nowhere, the site had been stable since post-penguin its new spot, is GONE from the top pages for its search results. the site is still indexed, but the home page appears to rank for NOTHING anymore and the keyword i used to be #1 for now has an internal page on the site ranking on page 6 or 7 of results with the home page nowhere.

I'm about ready to just give up. I thought I finally had something; the site had been making money on its own (though i kept it updated with new pages/articles) since last august. Then penguin happened. I changed courses, and it started to recover. Now, NOTHING.

Does anyone have any advice or notice any result shifting in the last couple days?

  • *Update* Found out the problem isn't google, it's that two days ago while I was on vacation my Weebly account was hacked and all sites deleted. Neat. Well, Warrior forum, it;s been real, but I'm not going to waste another two years of my life on this crap.

    • On which crap? Recover that stuff and get back to work... not a winning attitude man!

Unfortunate that it happened but you can't just bail like that if you want to succeed.

    • Weebly probably does backups, or they should.
They allowed you to download a backup. You
      should have done this.

The google cache has the stuff. Use the google cache and
      copy and paste it.

Only continued experience with websites and servers will make you
a smart person in the future.

  • Yep, on Monday. My visits was fallen down on Monday. All of them
  • Don't give up. You can of course say goodbye to SEO but not internet marketing as a whole. There are money to be made waiting for you.
  • Give up is not a solution.Just work hard to come back again.I found there are many websites are still in ranking which have lot of unnatural backlinks.I don't know, how google penguin is doing work some sites are out of rank and some sites still in ranking which have unnatural links either paid or built by link schemes.
But I will suggest you..just make a new page ,do work according to google penguin guidelines and check is that page is able to get in top ranking? If does, then all resources are open and try to 2-3 more pages...This is just an experiment and I hope you will give it a try.
    Good Luck!
  • There have been reports about websites following the guidelines yet are still continuously going down in rank. If this persist to happen, you can submit a form of complaint to google in their webmasters guideline.

  • Men, tried to contact with weebly customer's service, sure they have backup for you. They Must have and do have, if they say no, they must cheat you.

    • thank you for the words of encouragement, I don't want to be done for good, but need some time to cool off before I'll feel like putting hours into IM again. I contacted Weebly and found out I was not hacked, but that they decided my site was in violation of their ToS. Why? It "serves the sole purpose of selling ebooks."

Are you kidding me? You could not possibly have a CB affiliate site with more things OTHER than "just" selling ebooks. I had an active newsletter of over 5,000, interaction with the site on multiple social media platforms, thank you emails every day, and over 50 pages of unique articles and help sections. This was a site that got links naturally from forums and yahoo answers all the time because people in the niche linked to it as an authority reference for learning about the topic. But because it had ebooks on it somewhere, that's now the "sole purpose" and it gets shutdown? Apparently. No warning, no chance to revise the site, permanent account shutdown, and deletion of all sites, not just the offending one.

I'll be doing better research next time about who I'm hosting with. I'm not sure I'm as interested in self-hosting, though this avoids the chance of possibly having a similar issue) simply because I'm don't have the money to buy a professional looking theme and securing a self-hosted WP is just as much of a headache if the people I've talked to who have had their sites hacked out of the blue are to be believed.
