Wordpress Permalinks Structure Help!

Hello,

I've a product review site with the following permalinks structure /%postname% .
Now I've bought a new theme which have a product review type of post. The problem with this "product-review" post is that changes the permalinks to /product-review/%postname% .
Ok so I asked to a WP programmer to change it, and it will take me something like 135€ to take out that "product-review" from the link, to keep the same permalinks structure that I had.
So my question is, this /product-review/%postname% is very 'bad' in terms of SEO compared to this /%postname% ? Should I just move to the new permalinks structure ? Or should I pay the customization to keep and continue on the old one ?

  • i cant see why you should pay for this? its 2 clicks in "change permalinks" option in your WP panel
  • 135€ is to much for changing the permalink..

    just go to wp-admin > settings > permalinks. then you can change it to %postname% in custom structure.
  • Hi . Thanks for your replies.
    But the structure /product-review/%postaname% is just for the posts of type "product-review" so you can't change it on the permanlinks options of wordpress, since it's something added by the theme by code . This is the demo live demos.brianmcculloh.com/continuum/ (add http) .
    So, there are the common posts, and this theme add the "product-review" posts wich have special features, as the url is different, as so you can't change it through the permalinks options. Do you understand the problem ?

  • Well, if you have a products review site and there is "product review" in some of your URLs, is I understand correctly, then why worry?
  • /%postname% is better than /product-reviews/%postname%

    Why?

    More level link can make spider harder to crawl
  • Actually, i do own this amazing theme from themeforest,
    and for what i remember, you can change the permalinks structure from the theme options.

    Besides that, check in a fresh product review post, to see the suggested permalink name, and see if you can change it from the there (the actual post)

      So I've found a solution (for sure not the best), a plugin solution. Pluginize !
      The plugin is called Remove slug from custom post type, removes the slug , in my case is "product-review", from the url. So now when I create a specific theme post of a product review, the url is clean . Warning the plugin works only if you have a permalinks structure of /%postname% . In fact is my permalinks structure so no problem for that.
      Well I hope the solution helps somebody
    • Yeah, also see if the plugin has created a category called "product-review" - if not, it's possible someone WILL have to hack the code for you. But I bet someone round here can do it for a LOT less than 135 EUR. I don't really want to get into it, but I bet somebody would be OK with that, although it might also be a problem if the code of the plugin is encoded in some way.

    The solution just work for previous "product-review" posts created , not for the new ones When I create a new one I get a 404 error .
  • I was interested in this solution. Thanks for the heads up of the plugin. I haven't heard of that one before. Sounds like it doesn't work? Why dont you go back to another theme? If you don't have the words product reviews in your domain name or post title then is probably wont matter - it wont be spammy.

  • Sorry guys but the solution just seem to work on already posted "product-reviews" , but it doesn't work for new "product-review" posts it ends on 404 error
    So I've been searching around the problem and the only solution seems to be changing the code ... I've a developer that can do it for 90euros (2hours work) , if anybody knows or want to do it for a lower price would be appreciated But again then changing the code means that every time there is a theme update I had to put the code changes ... Does anyone have another option ? Thanks
